It should open before you get to the car itself...although sometimes i have to be right behind my car to get that damn thing working. Most of the time i have no problems though, i'll unlock my car from a ways away and it will work. You kinda just have to play with it. Im just waiting for enough money to buy an aftermarket set and get the remote start

The battery holder inside my fob wasn't soldered right at the factory (cold solder joint). I popped it open and resoldered the holder to the board. Check it.

Its the prongs that take the battery current, they break very easy, the fix is a quick soder.

My sister has aftermarket keyless entry installed on her Malibu and it just doesn't work whatsoever, but my mom and I have no problem with ours. Sometimes they're just defective I guess.

If you are under warranty, just go get them replaced.

The GM KEYFOB is known for failing after a couple of years. They really kindda suck. I have already gone through one.

I wouldnt say that.I still have the factory remotes for my 98 cavalier, and they still work.My only complaint is the range. You have to be pretty much ontop of the car for them to work.Thats why i got an aftermarket alarm.

it may say in the owners manual, but sometimes that is only a re-sync procedure
