I purchased an ss last july and have heard a "knocking noise" in the trunck area about a dozen times since I have bought the car...sounds like someone locked in trunck (and so far no one is!).

 

the same thing happens to me evey time i go over a spped bump still wondering what the hell that noise is

 

just the fuel system checking or resetting itself, they all do it and it's normal.

 

dude! i heard that yesterday after i left the dealership b/c they fixed my rim! anyways! it scared the crap out of me! i was like WTF! who's hitting my car! it was in the middle of street at a red light! i got out and was looking arounfmy car but there was no one there! people next to me probably thought i was crazy! lol.

 

i got out of my car at work and a co-worker of mine and i were talking and the trunk thingy clicked a few times and scared the crap out of him LOL

It sounds like someone knocking on a wooden desk or something.

It likes to happen in the Tim Horton's drive thru for some reason.

let me tell ya... this has happened maybe 3 4 times or so... and if the radio is off, it's still creapy when you turn around and no one is there...

thank god a normal answer for once, thanks! But i have to ask, do you think its because of the return fuel line? my 03 silverado never did this as well as some friends cavaliers.

 

YUP! Fuel system is checking the cap for leaks.

 

fuel system and the trunk latch checks itself also sounds like someones quickly knocking on the trunk. haha its a good way to freak people out that ride in your car though.

 

mine does that too... kinda randomly... but it's all normal...

my G5 did that to me i think 3 times and so i new what it was from this site but my ex gf was in the car and she was like OMG someone is in your trunk! i started cracking up and i told her what it was.

maslpfan, it really sounds like someone is in the trunk, poundindg on it to get out. kinda like a loud knock on a wooden door.... scares the **** outa me everytime it happends. i just moved alot closer into the city this past summer. going into work at 5:30 in the morning in the darg, i hear that at a light!!!!

 

i get it too. but its not the gas tank stuff for me. some how i guess water got into my spoiler, froze up and everytime i hit a bump i get that bangin noise. is that like covered under a warranty...shitty spoiler.

 

I've never heard this sound....also, I doubt you would hear it on a Silverado since the tank is under the bed, not underneath the cabin.

true, well yea now that i think about it, i had that thing so hooked up i wouldnt of heard it anyway.

ilmatics, if that repeats, i heard there was a issue with one of the back struts having issues, people are taking them in for new ones. ya might want to look that up to see if it maches your prob.

 

dont trap people in your trunk and they wont knock......duh

 

yeah i guess that could be pretty freaky!!
move to a new place and you hear that time for some backup but i guess i could seem like someone was bangin on your car! or you ran someone over......
im not saying its not possible, ive just never heard it before. that'd prolly creep me out to!

 

hmm good idea. maybe ill just bring it into my dealership. have them take it for a test drive and hear how bad it is.
