low coolant light
low coolant light
Has anyone experienced an issue with low coolant appearing on your display when you first start your car?
I have a 2007 SS/SC with less than 4,000 miles on it and the problem appeared about 300 miles ago...
I've checked my coolant level it seems fine, I just had my first oil change and had the dealer check the coolant and they checked off on it.
But, my car still registers low coolant if its been sitting for long periods of time, like when you leave your car in the parking lot at work all day or first get in it to drive to work.
It's fine when you shut the car off go in the grocery and start the car 20 minutes later, in other words when the engine is still warm from last running and the coolant temperature wise while running is A OK.
Bad sensor or common fluke with the car?

hey man dont let the coolant run low. my buddy did that on his 07 ss/sc and the pressure of it, with no coolant, blew his radaitor up. blew off his bumper while driving 70mph on the interstate. so watch out. and his light didnt come on untill it blew.
I was talking to the OP but have you tried running the code? If you havent, check the code out and if it doesnt register anything then it could be a problem with the light itself....also try disconnecting the battery for about 15min.
when i first got the car mine did that too. i just left it cool and when it was cold i just filled it up in the radiator. dont look at the reservoir tank, thats only overflow, u need to put it in the radiator. fixd mine just by adding a bit
I had my low coolant light come on once... when I checked the coolant it looked fine maybe just a bit low. I just took the overflow cap off, put in a little bit more fluid then ran the car with the cap off and heat on full blast for a couple of minutes to make there was no air in the system then closed it back up. Never had the DIC tell me low coolant since then.
(FYI - don't take the overflow cap off if the car is hot. It should be common sense but you never know....)

Yea I wish it was that simple. It's been topped off and still did the same thing later that day.
Low Coolant still displays when my car starts from a cool engine block in other words one that hasn't been ran for hours. But while running the temperature is still right around 180-182 only 190 in gridlock.
I'm just going to have my husband take my car in ask them to run the code and recheck the innercoolant level again since a chick couldn't possible know wtf she's talking about in the minds of 75% of service technicians.
(not trying to offend anyone who understand that sometimes daddy's little girl might at least have a clue).

Well, mine started doing that to me at ~800 miles. Said low coolant, checked it, and it looked ok. Did it intermittently about once a week.
Finally got off my ass and snagged a bottle of pre-mix, checked it cool, and it appeared low. Topped it off (engine coolant) to the full line, and haven't seen anything since (about 1200 miles later).
I also followed the directions to check the intercooler, and it was all good.
As a "since I'm here", I also topped off my windshield washer fluid. Figured since I was topping off fluids, may as well chuck some in. Good thing, too. Sucked in 3/4 gallon.

I was on my way to school one morning, just turned from a stoplight and it said low coolant on the DIC, scared the crap outta me, but it went away after like 2 seconds. Car had 2900 miles on it, kept my eye on the coolant temp the rest of the way and it stayed at the normal temp. good thing nothin was wrong because I was already about to be late.
I have a brand new 07 and my low coolant light came on today when it was parked on my driveway which has an incline. I turned the car off and turned it back on and the light went away. I don't think its the level, just the sensor.
For those who are filling their engine coolant level- the manual doesn't even say how to do it and says to take it to the dealer. How are you filling it- is their a special fill procedure for the engine coolant as well?

I have had this on my wife's 03 Sunfire with 2.2 Ecotec.
It has the light come on under hard excelleration and sometimes goes off eventually while driving.
It goes off when I restart the motor also.
It has coolant up to level so I do not know why it does this.
