Hey everyone. I'm swapping a LK9 into my 06 Cobalt SS. The LK9 is basically the same as the LSJ. I went to install the IC pump bracket and it hit a black connector coming from the oil pan. I believe its a low oil level sensor. Its held in by a big c-clip but you have to remove the pan to get it out from the inside, which I did.

I don't have the original LSJ motor/pan to see if the LSJ oil pan has the same type sensor only with a 90 degree connector instead of the straight style from the Saab LK9 oil pan. I'm not sure if this type of sensor is specific to the Saab or if its used in other Ecotec's as well.

lsj does not have a low level sensor. you will have to figure out a way to mount the pump somehow. good luck.
ps put an LSJ pan on it may be simpler. the dipstick tube and stick is unique to the LSJ pan...

 

Ya, the dipstick and tube is different for sure. What do you mean by figuring out a way to mount the pump? The oil pump should still suck through the pickup right? I just need to plug the hole in the pan?

 

You said you ran into the issue when u went to install the IC pump bracket. So. figure a way to mount the pump. the pan is a non starter in my view. get an lsj pan at the boneyard. put it on.

 

Thanks for the info. The IC pump bracket bolts up fine without the sensor there. The threaded boss is there on the oil pan for the bracket already. I'm just going to machine up a plug to press in the empty bore and call it a day since the sensor isn't applicable to the LSJ. Thanks again for the help.

 

depending on the shape of the oil pan you will have to measure oil in and run with that level. |I expect it will have to be 5 litres ; the 6.5 litre LSJ pan is different and unless you run the tube and stick that came with the new pan the oil level wont read right. if you try to run 6.5 litres in a 5 litre pan you will run into windage issues from too much oil

 

Are there any oil level/pressure sensor/sending units that are threaded into the LSJ block? I called up my local parts store and they said there was a sensor that threads into somewhere. Not sure if it was for the oil pressure or oil level. If so, where are the locations? Thanks.

 

oil pressure and oil pressure relief valve on an lsj runs off the oil cooler assembly that bolts to the block. there are no other stock pressure taps for oil on the block iirc.no oil level sensors

 

Ya, that's right I do recall seeing a sensor coming from the oil cooler. I checked the oil capacity of the LK9 and its 6 litres (6.3 quarts). So its within 1/2 litre of the LSJ. I'm going to take a second look at the dipstick to see if I can use it. Otherwise try to locate and LSJ dipstick.

 

the dipstick tubes go with the pan as the oil pan boss the tube mounts differs in height. the capacity of the engine is determined by the pan.
