low rpm?

yeah, so when im driving my car if im in gear driving down the road, and i slip it to neutral, the car idols pretty much at 1000 exactly, but when i come to a stop its at around 750 rpm, so is this something i should be concercend about? also if i have it in neutral and rev it, it sounds like its back firing, not a really loud one, but a little pop that happends occasionaly.
its an 05 ls standard, anyone ever heard of this problem?

i dunno which model you have, but my ss/sc (05) does the same thing. it is of no concern. my best guess is that it is done on purpose by the PCM (remember, we have electronic throttles) when the car is in motion, maybe as a protection against stalling or to provide some extra torque, so you can "idle drive" kind of like with an automatic tranny. and the backfiring is normal with high-flow exhausts, especially when the car is not under load (in neutral, stopped) since the rpms can drop a lot faster with no momentum transferred to the engine from your wheels/tranny/clutch/flywheel. exhaust gases build up in the exhaust, heating unburnt fuel over its flashpoint, causing detonation, hence backfire. i think it sounds cool

^^ yep... also, i bet the backfire has a LOT to do with it being cold... keep in mind when it's cold out, your exhaust goes from freezing to burning hot in a matter of minutes... then goes back to freezing when you stop the car... when i start my car now that it's cold out, it sounds like a gun shot.... vroooommmm POP
