Mass Sensor & Corroded Wires

I dropped my car (08 sport 5MT) off this morning at the dealership for them to have a look at it. The engine kept cutting out whenever it was hot and I had the A/C on. Turns out it was the mass sensor and there are also some corroded wires, which is going to cost me $450 to repair. *sigh* This is my second Chevy (01 Z24 5MT), and I swear GM hires monkeys to do the electrical work in their cars.

Anyways, has anyone else had this issue? Apparently there are no recalls on this, though you would think that wiring would last a little longer than 2 years. Also makes me wonder if I am going to have to make this repair every two years.

450? the sensor lists for 81, labor MIGHT BE 1 hr. You can do the replacement yourself it is NOT difficult. Order the MAF Sensor pigtail, solder it after you slip pieces of heatshrink tubing until the wires to cover it up. Even if you have to buy a soldering iron...it's still cheaper, and if you can't do it, there is SOMEONE you know who can.

Unless you have miled it out, you should be able to get this fixed under warranty.

Must say though, I know how much salt they dump on the roads around to in the winter, gonna play hell with any kind of wiring that is not perfectly sealed - like the wiring on our cars

Hi Guys, thanks for the input. Yeah, unfortunately, I live in a condo, so I don't have space to do any repairs, but next time this happens, I'm just going to rewire it myself and add a few extra layers of heatshrink on it as suggested. Even if it means finding a parking lot.

Overmiled on it, just crossed 80k kms. You would figure/hope that any part that might be exposed to salt would be sealed a bit better. Like I said though, I've come to expect some short comings with the electrical systems in Chevys. For instance, the wire bundle going to my rearview mirror is wrapped in electrical tape, not heat shrink. While I love the car overall, there are a bunch of little things that I shake my head at.
