More Problems.. Damn Gas Cap
More Problems.. Damn Gas Cap
So yesterday on my way home from the dealership, (just got some **** fixed) I was driving and a DIC message came up saying check gas cap. I'm like uh ok, they just replaced this assembly with a new one ..maybe they didn't tighten it.. well I got home and tightend it and went to get food.. stupid thing came on again.. wtf.. I JUST GOT A CRAP LOAD OF STUFF FIXED ON THIS CAR... so after getting food I go home and take the gas cap off my sedan and move it onto the SS, still getting the same problem, check gas cap.. God damn it, the gas cap is fine!! I move the SS gas cap on the sedan. no problems..
Must be a sensor that went out. Another thing to add to my 11 page service history...
will it ever end?

I only have 2500 miles and my cruise control doesnt work and my sun roof rattles like a sun of a bitch. If that makes you feel any better. Oh ya and my car almost dies when I put it into reverse and it also has the bucking bronco affect. Come to think of it my car has some issues for being new...

Anything thats 20k+ should be some quality **** unless 20 grand is a drop in the bucket for you. I dont give a **** about ferrari's and lamborghinis, if i could buy one of those i could fix it whenever I wanted too and not worry about the price.
Even though these cars are coming into their third year, they're still pretty much considered "1st year vehicles" It takes some companies a little while to get all the "1st year" bugs worked out. This is the price you have to pay for owning a brand new model.

GM has had over a Century of upgrading and getting things right. The powertrain (Aside from the Supercharger) is from a Cavailer/Sunfire etc. I don't buy this first year ****. This is more like a 20 year old car in new car form.

The Cobalts are not + $20,000 cars, they are well under. In the SS models you are paying more for some nicer trim pieces, rims and tires, better motor and handling package. What I'm saying here is that the base and SS models share most parts and it is those parts that are giving most of the problems. Both me and my wife have an SS and both have been very good cars with few problems.
Aside from a few small problems early on , my early build 05( may) still continues to be problem free .
I really would push hard on the lemon law . I would think you have more than enuff problems to qualify . GM really just needs to buy your car back and tear it completely down and find out what hell went wrong . And at the very least offer you a 07 SS/SC at fair market value of your used 05 SS , so youd still owe about the same .

GM's initial quality on this vehicle is a lot better, but i'm finding that long term reliability is not going to be up to par with other car companies. I've got a list now of 9 problems with our Coupe LS.
The most problems I ever had with a vehicle besides the cobalt was from a 1980 Ford Fairmont that continually overheated any time you turned the A/C on at all. I was like 10 at the time and everytime I got shoved into the back seat during the summer I ended up with heat stroke. that P.O.S. I had to live with that back seat for 4 years until we dumped the thing and got a new 1984 Nissan 200SX which gave my parents 8 years of problem free service. They traded that in on a mustang in 1992 and owned the stang until 1996 when it started having problems, and traded it in on a Dodge Pickup that they still have (10 years old.) hehe.
GM's got a LOOOONG ways to go if they want to catch up to Toyota and Honda, because while they're not perfect, at least the problems most of those cars have are consistent. I've got a list of 9 on the cobalt, and we've had it since Feb of 06. So yeah, quality could be a lot better. The Cobalt's problems has some consistent stuff and some stuff that's just all over the place. That speaks of poor workmanship at the factory.
I had 4 problems on a toyota corolla over the course of 2 and a half years. Including the power window motor on the passenger side going out at that 2 and a half year mark. And I never had technicians try to Jimmy rig stuff on the toyota's/honda's like I've heard happen here on these forums.
And IMO GM should have fixed a lot of these problems after '05, yet they still plague people on the '06 model year. That's just laziness on GM's part. Most manufacturers spend the time between model refreshenings fixing the problems, and GM isn't doing that apparently.
I like the cobalt, but I was hoping for a better quality car. Toyota and Honda have both proven that you don't have to suffer a car that falls apart just because it's an "under 20k" car. Still, we've got the 5 year warranty, I just hope we don't have to use it after I get these issues taken care of.

sneaky....if your dealer ever gives you trouble regarding fixing your car, consider going to Rodger Chev in Woodhaven. They are a really good stealership...never question me anytime I come in.
hey sneaky. LT to LT, mine has no problem at all mechanical wise. just some minor interior trim squeaks. i think it mite be the cars that you get from this dealer? coz i heard you have tons of problems on both ur SS and LT
The first time i filled up my cobalt ever after buying it the gas cap fell off ( off the plastic wire that holds it on )
i thought, "oh, how nice."
put it back on and its fell off about 4 times since that lol.
