My Red SS/SC Went In for Service Today

I took my car in for service for several things today, the first issue was pulsating of the brakes(I can see the rotors are grooved really good), my header and pipe leading down to the cataylst converter turned cherry red last Thursday coming back from a meet and a member (NGalaxy) seen what it did.. holy cow, the car went into limp mode

. I also brought it in to inspect the brake pads, the buttons on the steering wheel were only functioning half the time and the door inserts were the buttons like windows and locks was chipping paint and the leather was splitting.

Here is what the dealership is doing for me:

*The Code in memory is Thermostat failure, they see nothing wrong with the thermostat and they have a computer reflash from GM to correct the faulty thermostat (this is what caused the car to severly overheat and go into limp mode when the exhaust turn cherry red.)

*The Groved Rotors are a result of poor craftsmanship and not made specifically for this type of car. They are going to resurface the rotors on the front and back free.

*The button assembly for the steering wheel controls (radio, cruise etc) will need to be replaced because something broke (They won't say). They have this on order currently.

*The chipping paint and splitting leather will be fixed soon, GM acknowledges this issue and will be sending free replacement inserts (A Nationwide recall will be out for this I was told). April is the soonest I get the replacement door consoles.

*My front brake pads on the front are down to 10% wear left they said. I am getting new pads installed today. Hopefully this will correct my stopping issue I am having right now. You stop with the fronts primairly from I have been told.

This is with 30,000 miles on the car now and it's only been a year (Car turns 1 year old from date of pick up on March 31st).

I have a list I have been compiling on a spread sheet of things that needed to be done to my car to date.

mine is in right now for a list of things, mainly cosmetic, and the idle surge, my breaks do squeak from time to time, they have that on file and if anything bad happens they will deal with it then.

yes the first time for me replacing the brake pads on the front, I was told the pads should be inspected every 15k miles. They shouldn't hassle you for the rotor, GM has a bulletin to replace these if they show early wear. It should come as no suprise to the dealership, it's there way of getting extra $$ from you.

outside of the dealership I won't. They have a list that pulls up with your car, everytime the dealership here pulls up my vin number an associated list of fixes come up with it with the car they do when they have custody of my car for that service visit. When I am done they tell me things they ended up doing that are in compliance with GM and recalls/known troubled issues. They stay on top of things for me

ok, I just got my car back. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

The grooved rotors got resurfaced that's fine... I looked at my brake pads they took off my SS/SC that supposedly only had 10-15% wear left.... Try more like half the pad is still there!! I got charged $189 for front pads that didn't need to be replaced.. you know why they replaced my pads? They are grooved to the same grooves were on my rotor. I am super MEGA PISSED!! I won't have to get new brakes if the god damn rotors didn't have grooved that badly. I still have the old pads.. I am unsure how they jutstified that I needed new pads... they look like they have plenty of meat left but the surface of the pads are so badly grooved that they won't mate with the rotors because of the damage.

This shouldn't have came out of my pocket.. this should have came out of GM's pocket... I am calling customer service right now.

We'll they are more grooved than usual. I agree GM should have replaced those too, since their damage was a result of the rotor problem. The cut throught the middle is for cooling if I am not mistaken.

go and have a chat with the service manager, that's what I'm doing tomorrow.
I got my oil changed at 30k km, and my regular service adviser asked if they could check the breaks because it was about that time, I said go ahead (impressed that they talking initiative), breaks come back with a clean bill of health.
2000km later I get the coil overs installed, and take of those steelies, and see these rotor, WTF!, that's when I take it to the dealer, my adviser off on vacation. the other adviser starts off by telling me there is some debris stuck between the pad and the rotor ( dumb ass).

I tell him that's BS. and a lot of people are having this problem, ( and mine are bad, an easy 1.5mm difference in some areas ) so he says they take it in and have a better look at the pads. he calls me at work, saying that the pads are severely worn, and I'm down to 2%, and some areas 0%. and he wants to do the above work. I saw the pads when I had the wheel off to do the coil-overs, it had about the same amount that Sneaky has.
at this point I'm debating whether or not I'll ever go back to a GM service department.

the moral, if they tell you your pads are gone make them show you. and show you a new set as well so you can compare.

I ordered a new set of rotors, and am going to order a set of pads ( probably green stuff )
and tomorrow morning I'm going to have a chat with the service manager.

P.S.
I picked up my car at lunch yesterday, and after work when i got home I decided to put the summers back on. those bastards tightened the nuts so hard the one of the studs broke off while I was trying to take it off.

I am beyond Pissed at this point.

Called GM Customer Service today, they agree with my story on my pads and rotors. They are going to call my dealership this afternoon and give me an update on compensation by Friday.

my pads look just like sneakys above. my car is going in for service tomorrow. you know the favorite door panel thing and the bezels loosing the silver paint. but i thought i was the only one on here to break of the shift pattern on the shifter, their putting on a new shift knob. also checking door alignment as they rub bottom of door jams, also door handles sticking, hard to open. and last but not least, the rear brakes hanging up when you brake hard or several times in a short period of time, that was fun to explain. all in all, my dealership has been pretty fast and ok about fixing things, we will see after tomorrow.

they don't replace shift knobs, they don't come off, they replace the whole shifter.
