I would throw it back in the mechanics face.... ask him: did you not know a new one was $2K? and a used one was $600? Then why would you even conceive of charging me $4K? trying to rip me off?
You already paid the $500 correct? offer a settlement of $1500 ($2K total) and see what happens. Also tell him you will inform the BBB if he chooses to charge you more than $2500.... also document everything, every conversation!

I have learned that buddies can F*** you harder than some strangers.... I had a bad rebuild done years ago , I am still pissed at that knucklehead.

I went to pick my car up today and they came at me with a bill for 4500.00 I told them I wasn't going to pay it because they had not given me a written estimate. They then pulled out my original signed paper in which i know for a fact had left all the boxes blank on (you know I need a written estimate, I need a written estimate if it exceeds this amount, and I do not require a written estimate) Well they checked the box I don't need a written estimate when I clearly remember leaving all things blank on the page except for my sig. They also would not let me pay with amex without signing their new invoice which stated several false things including one that they had contacted me and told me that my car was going to be around 4500.00 and that I also told them money was no object. I left the car and am going to bond it out tomorrow through the clerk and take them to court. I also contacted my local news channel and The Division of consumer services who said they didn't have a liscence on file with them. I am so pissed right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They also said that they couldn't locate a whole new tranny for the car anywhere in the US which I beleive is total bullshit.

make sure you get a good lawyer. You're going to need it to fight the signed paperwork, even though all they did was check in the box after you signed it.

We told you paper work will come out sooner or later but i think that if they dont have a liscene then there ass is yours and plus you can tell the judge a site you can buy a tranny for 1900 brand new. So it will just go to show you that they are trying to make a buck on something for nothing

thats rediculous im pretty sure you should be able to find a new tranny
for a lot less than that. i would definatly go after them about not tellin you what
there doin. I Know at my shop we cant do anything until we get customer permission.
