Need new transmission

Hello when I bought the Cobalt SS a month ago the owner told me the transmission grinds when going to second gear, I knew I would need to buy a new transmission and now I can. I also know I could get the synchros fixed but I'd rather just buy a good used transmission. Does anyone know of a place I could buy a transmission for my Cobalt SS 2009? or any recommendations? Also, can I use a transmission from other older Cobalts SS? (Like the 05 - 07 SS Cobalt) I've tried reading some other articles online but none give me a specific answer, thanks!

Yes a trans mission from any year 2.0 SS will work. 05-07 have a different gear ration then 08-10, but none the less it will work. If you want a new one you might be able to find one on Crate Engine Depot, if you are looking for used, you can check facebook gorups like Cobalt Nation Buy/Sell/Trade. ZZP might offer something, I know both ZZP and OTTP offer the 6 speed upgrades as well.

If you want used, you can keep your eyes peeled here, or start watching eBay. There's a couple people on Facebook that sell these often enough.

I'd recommend trying to get a 05-07 Cobalt SS or Ion Redline transmission (NOT an 04 IRL). You can also grab an HHR SS transmission (best to get, but very rare - thicker case w/ 4.05 FD).

I'm pretty sure ZZP and OTTP stopped selling F35's... and CED requires a core and their prices are quite high.

Try adjusting shifter cables first before you do anything. Mine had a grind going into 2nd and went away after i readjusted the cables.

The old owner did tell me the grinding started after installing a new clutch, can you give a little more details on where I could find the shifter cable? or what I would do?

The adjustment for the cables is in the base of the shifter. Personally, I don't think that's the problem as you'd typically have the problem in more than just a single gear change, but I've been wrong before. If the problem started after a clutch change, it could mean that the clutch isn't disengaging all the way during a shift, but again - you'd typically see that grind in more than one gear.

2nd gear synchro is a common problem. It happens when the blocker ring expands too much to drop into the grooves (I have pictures somewhere that explain this). I had mine go out in my OE transmission at 20k miles. Happens if you force/slam the 1 to 2 or 3 to 2 shift too hard.

EDIT: Found the pictures
