New LDK motor BLEW!!!

So I blew up my stock ldk motor with slightly less than 3k miles . Fbo, z54 turbo , aluminum flywheel, southbend stage 4+ clutch, built stage 2 f35 from pwerks, tuned by zzp . I broke in the motor fairly easy for 1500-2000 miles . I went for a top speed pull from 80-160 . As soon as it went past 160 I started to slow down and seen lots of smoke flying from the back of the car I slowed down and it died . Car is wet with oil underneath. Assuming there is a giant hole in the block now . The motor is trash now . My question is what could be a potential cause for the catastrophic failure with the setup I had .(shitty fuel)? (Boost spike)? It shouldn’t have blown at the power level I was at . Well at least not that soon . The email from zzp said I should be around 380-400 hp for my setup. I never WOT under 3-3500 rpm’s. The car felt solid . Nothing has caused any concerns, until when it blew. At this point I have got so much money into the car I will be going a full race build . Zzp racing shortblock . Zzp neutral balance shafts . Ported & polished head with valve springs, stage 2 cams, opel injectors, 5th injector kit, switching the z54 turbo out for a zfr7163 , retune on e85. That’s every supporting mod zzp sells for my motor besides a upgraded HPFP but I doubt that’s even needed .

Unless you have data logs of when it happened its hard to say what could of caused the issue. What fuel are you on?

Also pull the plugs and put a socket on the crank pully bolt and see if the engine moves. I would also verify there is a hole in the block before assuming, one thing I would suspect is the oil feed line since you're running the z54. The heat shielding isn't the best in that area and things would of been red hot on that long pull.

I was on 93 pump gas .

well if there isn’t a hole in the block I know it’s pretty scored up. It would have starved the block of oil and destroyed the pistons . It was pretty violent on the way out … I’m out of state for work now so when I get back into town I’m gonna pull the motor and take it apart to see what I can find . Even if the block is worth saving I’m not . Girdled race block is a definite. If it is to break again anyone can have it . It’s a sad…. SAD amount of money in the lil 4 cylinder!!!!

If it was violent then the potential for a hole is much higher, I read your original post as the smoke was the only indicator of something being wrong.

If you do all those ZZP mods I can tell you that you do not need the 5th injector. Long story short, I have that build and it never worked out, shipped the car to ZZP and they couldn't get it set either until they removed the 5th injector. Now it is awesome.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but that setup you are talking about is a lot of fun.
