new problem with the ss/sc :(
i was driving around a turn in 2nd gear at 3k rpm with my windows open, something (under/ in the back end) of the car was making a metalic squeek repeatedly, when i shifted into 3rd and continued to go straight i heard it again, it stopped for about 5 minutes as i continued to drive, as i accelerated around another turn the car began to make the noise again, but only 1 or 2 squeeks here and there, i continued to go straight, and it made a few squeeks here and there before i parked...
whats the problem?

so i went to gm today, they took off my wheels and showed me the problem was the front brake pads, it was metal on metal damaging my rotors. meaning the brake pads are done. they told me it 280$ for 2 new brake pads, and re-surfacing the rotors...

I was going to say brake pads...
$280, wow I am glad I can do all that stuff to the car myself.
How many miles did you have on the car? I had to change my front pads at about 40K miles. I have 60K on the car now and my back brakes are starting to get pretty low now.

i have 56k kilometers, 32-33k miles, i went for a second opinion, gm did a **** inspection on my car, all my pads and rotors are completely cooked, and apparently its dangerous to drive my car, and i trust this garage owner's assessment as he's been doing my family's cars for 25+ years... re-surfacing the rotors will leave me with rotors as thin as card board... any advice one what to get for new brakes...?

I have a similar problem..
The cause of my issue is the subwoofer enclosure is missing one of the nuts that
hold it on, and the plastic of the housing is squeaking on the stub that it's supposed to mount to.
Of course, I also have a clunking in the front end that sounds like a strut mount. Is that common in the Cobalt SS/SC?? I've heard about lower control arm bushing issues, but this sounds higher, right behind the PS airbag when going over sharp bumps.

If you want some great brakes at a great price, see this thread:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/supporting-vendor-deals-group-purchases-133/stoptech-rotors-%7C-hawk-pads-%7C-ss-lines-%7C-holiday-sale-88253/
The sale may not still be on, but he gave me a great deal on the Stoptech rotors, HP+ brake pads, stainless steel lines, and some racing brake fluid. I love my brakes now!
