No heat and noises from inside the dash?

Car is a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC, about 61500 miles on it.

The last few days I have noticed a strange flapping/clicking/servo motor sound coming from inside my dash, not sure where it's coming from exactly but it seems to be behind the gauge cluster area. It almost sounds like a relay clicking (like when the hazards are on and servo motor moving a flap, except the clicking is much quieter than a relay. The clicking speed changes as well.

At the same time I noticed these strange noises, my heat also basically stopped working. All other HVAC functions work, the fan works on all speeds, the different settings (upper vents, lower vents, defrost, and mix) all work as well. The car just isn't blowing warm air anymore. The car doesn't blow cold air from outside, but the warmest it gets is maybe about 55-60* (turned to heat all the way on) It doesn't matter if I drive 10 minutes or an hour, I still don't get heat. When I turn the temp dial to cold, the air does get colder.

Engine is running around 180,* coolant level is fine and there's no air in the heater core or cooling system. Outside temp has been 20's-30's since this has started, but it's been colder before and I've had heat so hot I hard to turn it down and crack the sunroof open to cool off.

The only changes I've made since this started was that I changed the timing chain tensioner, changed my oil, and swapped my black leather ss seats out for black/blue leather ss seats.

Is the noise I'm hearing in the dash possibly related to the ineffective heat? Like a flap is stuck open and trying to close but can't or something? Has anyone experienced this at all?

Symptoms certainly sound like whatever mechanism is responsible for changing the air routing is failing to do so. No idea what it's called though.

Are you able to redirect air from top to bottom, or just can't get it away from the recirculate setting?

I can direct the air every way and it works, and I didn't have the hvac set to recirculate the air, although maybe the car would actually get warm if I did that.

sounds like your air temp actuator is failed.

Takes about 30-60 minutes to replace. ANd ive seen prices range from 40-200 doillars

Whatever it was seems to have worked itself out. I have heat again and the servo motor/flapping noise has stopped. This car is something else...
