No More 2nd, 4th, or reverse

Like it says, coming home last night i shifted into 4th on the highway and it isn't there. When I slowed down and downshifted i didn't have 2nd either.

I installed my B&M shortthrow about 6 months ago. It had to be readjusted one time but other then that, nothing up until last night. I figured that one of the clips was broken or came off, but they are fine, and the cables both move. If you look in the engine bay the 2 cables come out the firewall, and into a block, or somthing, that holds the cables. One cable looks fine when you go through the gears, but the other one flops around and comes out like 6 inches at the holder.

Could I really have broken the Cable?

Anyone ever replace one?

I really need help with this, I don't understand front heel drive that well, and Until I get a new downpipe, I can't take it to the dealer.

Plus, do you think they will blame it on my shifter, I don't think the shifter should have anything to do with it, since it is all oem spec, just a shorter throw. Should I put the stock one back in first?

WTF... anyone want to buy a broken car.

any info would be great

Im sure it has to do with you installing the B&M I have never had a problem with my shifts. (stock)
I would return it to stock before bringing it in for service

Not sure how the B&M could cuase it. I marked my cables with permanent marker and to me as long as the cables are still in the same spot as before nothing has changed. Only thing that has changed is the lenght of the shifter. My marked cables are snapped in place just as they were stock.

Maybe I missed something somewhere. Why do you need to replace down pipe? Did you replace it with aftmkt or something. And if so......dealer should still work on your Cobalt.

No, I was overboosting and smoked the cat, causing the gaskets and the flex pipe to go. They said it was because i used leaded fuel... I don't even know where to get it, or a reason why i would use it, so they never fixed it.

I then deleted the cat, since they won't warrenty the Downpipe so the CEL light is on for that. I don't want to take it in with the Exhaust leak and no cat, just in case I have problems later.

Get the down pipe fixed first, and then screw on the stock knob. It will twist on the threads on the B&M shifter without ruining the threads. I know the stock knob has no threads, but it will go on there. Then take it in for service.

HERES THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was one of the first to have such a problum....both with stock and with my B&Msts

the cables clip on to these lever looking things on the trans....when the move it changes a gear...simple enough....the problum is that the leaver things are held on the the trans by a very shity little hallow roll pin....it breaks/bends very easy.....if you want try and replace the pin your self...get under the car and you can do it....if you take it to the dealer PUT THE STOCK SHIFTER BACK ON....my reason for that is simple..... when i took my car in for the 3rd roll pin(I'm on my 5th now ) it had the B&M on....it broke the first cupple times with the stock shifter...the only reason i still have a warrenty on my trans is bcasue a friend of mine at the dealership gave me a heads up and i came and got the car before the dervis rep came in....so long story short....i

its not the calbes...its this roll pin...the calbes are quite strong....put the stocker back on and get it fixed then swap the B&M back....i've done it many times now and it can be done in about 20min once you've done it a few times.

good luck, PM for help if you need

PMED...... Is the same thing that happened to me what happened to you. I can't really tell until it is on a lift, but you think the pin can be easily replace myself?

Same thing happened to me at the track today. Got under the car and the black cable actually had a piece that was broken off on it. About 1/2 inch long on the side closest to the tranny. I have a B&M. I only have it cause the dealership glued my stock knob back on and I had to sawzall it off.

I was able to somewhat fix it by ramming the plastic piece back onto the linkage holder that it popped out of and made it home but it just popped out again. Any ideas. I mean I have a broked piece of plastic on my shift cables.

The linkage was broken down by the trans.. just like djt81185 said. They finally ordered the new one and got it in, but now they are having problems getting it into reverse. WTF. and they said their directions say something about a neutral switch that they can't find on my B & M.

Anyone have an idea of what they are talking about. i did exactly what the B & M directions said when I installed it. I Don't know why it won't go into reverse.

HELP!!!

Why don't you email B&M and tell them about the switch/what GM told you. They may have an idea on what needs to be done...

I lost 2nd, 4th and reverse this weekend....i went to shift into 4th getting on the highway and all i got was nothing....but i had 1st 3rd and 5th. so i pulled off the highway into a parking lot and pulled out my cupholder to find that the linkage popped out of the bracket. All i had to do was pop it back in. So i havent done any hard shifts since.

this happened to me about a month ago and the dealership said right away that my shift cable snapped and if you take it to the dealership, put the stock shifter back on.
