hello guys, at start up i hear this odd noise almost like the timing chain is rubbing something. it lasts about 5 second then stops. has anyone had this issue and possibly found a fix? 114k miles, cobalt ss 4dr. automatic. 2.4l

 

My car does the same thing. Pretty sure it is the timing chain tensioner. I ordered a new one, just haven't found time to install it yet.

 

looking at 40 bucks for one. might do it. they are really easy to change

 

Yep, you need a 32mm wrench or socket. A socket and 1/2" drive ratchet makes it soooo much easier.

 

i will have access to a lift and tools. i go to a craft shop. so we can all agree that nasty sound is the timing chain tensioner?

 

I would get on changing this sooner than later, I have been told a bad timing chain tensioner can cause terrible engine problems.

 

had the same issue, replaced timing chain tensioner and fixed the problem
