Noise when accelorating...

Hey all, one quick question. I noticed yesterday that when I give some gas to the car, it makes a sound as if air is being forcefully pushed out from somewhere... Maybe the muffler? I dunno... But one thing I know for sure, it's not the sound of the s/c. Anyone else hear this? I'm taking it in to fix some other stuff, so I guess I'll tell them about that...

One of your windows is open just a crack. Close it and that should solve the problem.

Check for one of the screws towards the front of the car rubbing on the rubber intake tube.

Does it sound like it is near the feet section of the passenger? I have the same thing. I think it is the exhaust through the exhaust pipes. if you are driving and then let off the gas, it is gone. then when you give it gas, it is back. Most likely that.

yeah! well, it sounds like it's coming from the back right of the car. But you're exactly right, as soon as you let go of the gas, it stops. Push the pedal down again, and there it is. I notice it's only there for me when I'm pushing the car. If i'm driving normally or slower than usual, it's not really there... I'm gunna call my GM dealer soon!!!

Sounds like the exhaust. Maybe you've got a bit of a leak.

I dont think anyone knows for sure, but even C&D or MT experienced it in one of their tests.

I think it's not actually a problem, just the normal sound of the muffler lol! I was listening more carefully, and it sounds like it's just a normal sound... bope... i'll keep my ears open

If it's a hole, it shouldn't. Fuel economy might go down a tad, bout it. If it's not a hole, there may be some sound deadening insulation missing in the floor board area.

One of the things I really like about our cobalt is that it's very quiet inside the cabin even at highway speeds compared to other vehicles in this segment.

As far as I can tell it sounds like either exhaust or tranny.

In my case I only here it when I give it a little gas or when I'm accelerating.

I always assumed it was just the auto tranny, but I guess I could be wrong in this case....

My guess would be alternator whine since the battery is clear in the back. Alternator in the front of the car.... battery in the back, sounds like a biggy option to me.

ok, well, i have a 2.4 and it does the same thing.... but.... it is not when i reach high rpm's, it only does it when i hammer it in the low rpm's, for example in a high gear... cuz it is forcing too much air through with not enough power

GET IT CHECKED ASAP !!!

check to see if you only get the hissing or whistling noise when you start to put boost. I had a similar problem and it was my CAT that was clogging up, if your cat cloggs while your driving it's major bad news for you engine

i would say its a hole somewhere in the top of the tank...if air is being pushed out when you put gas in ...then air is getting in somewhere when you start getting an empty tank...and when you put gas in the air is being pushed back out...that sucks i dont know how that could have evr happened

i think that with us... it is just too much air being forced through at low rpm's, nothin to worry about i would think, just take er' easy when in high gears at low rpm's. it doesnt sound like the exhaust for the 2.4's, it sounds like it is coming from the intake almost...

i have the same thing, i think its caused by being in a high gear at low rpms while accelerating
