Not sure what is wrong

Here is my story. Wednesday I was driving down the eway and out of nowhere all my gauges bottom out, danced around a bit and the ABS light came on. The car never shut off and it only lasted a minute or so and everything went back to normal. I noticed that it seemed to happen when the gauge lights turned so I tried to replicate the problem later on in the day by putting something over the sensor and nothing happened when the lights came on again.

I thought nothing more of it with the car being fine the rest of the day and throughout Thursday. However more problems occurred today. The car was fine all day until I was driving home. I stopped at a stop sign and when i went to go threw the intersection and the gauges and ABS light did the same exact thing however this time the door locks decided to unlock and then lock again. Again the car never turned off and within a minute or so everything was fine again.

I continued home and stopped at a gas station to fill up. When i went to leave the car didn't want to even attempt to turn over and there was power because my radio and everything was working. I checked the battery just to be sure and everything was nice and secure. I then checked the fuse box. It didn't look like any fuses were blown but i decided to swap the run relay with another one and try it starting the car again thinking that the relay may have died. I tried it and the car started. Sticking with this idea i then turned the car back off and swapped the relays back to their original spots and tried starting the car again. The car started fine again with was a shock. I then drove the rest of the way home and nothing strange happened.

Anyone have any idea at all what the problem might be. I called the dealership and they pretty much said they could do nothing until the car did it on a regular basis or if the car wouldn't start to determine the problem.

i would suspect the bcm at first, but if there were any codes you could give us that would be best. like short to ground or battery would help alot

Yah check your terminals and your ground. Does it happen after going over a bump?

Yeah did you check the ground on the battery? You have one on the alternator and the starter also those can possibly cause a shortage.

same this happend to me, and my car said something about power steering. I drove for 40 min not knowing my speed. I think my rpm was working but can't remember. I got to my girls house. then when we left it was all good, had power steering back. And it has never happend since.

one other time i did a little burnout, nothing big. And my e-brake and abs lights came on. I was told because of the tires spinning. I dunno. Turned car off back on, and it was all good. MAGIC BALT. lol

to me it sounds like a short which are bitches to find.
my first car the gauges used to randdomly pin, and dance so i replaced the headlight switch, relays and ultimately it was a short so i just had to keep messing with it until i got it.

it could also be a faulty sensor or ground. but like the other guy said, id prob only look to that if your car did it when you went over bumps.

if you say your fuses are good then idk, but i know in big trucks, maybe in cobalts the abs and lights often run off the same fuse so its odd that you say the abs and your gauge lights are messing up together.

I had the same problem. It happened to be the Body Control Module going bad. It was just defective. I took it in 3 times before it was finally fixed. The first two times were at a different dealer, they just re-programmed it or re-flashed it. They did this twice, then took it to a different dealer after getting frustrated and that was the problem. So have them check that.

I agree with gremlins, I had something like this but it was the power steering instead. Just unplug the battery and let the computer reset, hope forthe best. You never know with all of these sensors and crap.

does that actually make the comp reset?like if you cel is on and you pull the battery then wait and plug back in it will go off?

will the same work if your cel is on because of a cai. Mine is going on because of that and when the cel is on my car lags huge, and engine sounds loud, and intake doesn't whine. still can go past 200km/h but it accelerates slower.
