Question Odd noise from the front

When it is around -20C (cold) my 09 ls makes some off sounds as i hit bumps in the road. Small bumps dont make the sound....but bigger then normal bumps do. or even just dips in the highway. Basically, anything that makes the suspension travel alot.

The sound can best be described as rubber being rubbed against metal. It makes the sound on both the up and down motion.

Any idea what this would be? I still have warranty....but it is never cold when my appointment rolls around, so they cant replicate the sound to know what to fix.

I am guessing the shock absorbers?

MY 09 ss does it as well. Only when its real cold though, and once the car's moved a bit the noise will stop.

Guess I should have em take a look before the warranty's up

It's the front sway bar binding in the bushings. Makes a lovely groaning noise that reverberates through the whole car.

Might be able to lube them (pretty sure that's what the dealer does) but I just put up with it for the times it gets that cold. Might get under there someday but not until it warms up - was -40* with the wind chill this am......

when cars r cold they make scary noises. not to say ignore it but most of the time cars will make strange noises when warming up still. like bumps make my suspension speak and pop over the first few bumps then it goes away. same with the brakes. they may sqeal first until uses a little. again, i wouldnt ignore these noises. if you have warrenty. **** it. go get your car checked out. its free ha but i hope u get my point.

If the noise only happens when its really cold out... I wouldn't worry about the noise. Replacing components likely will not get rid of the noise.

it is a 2009 with 27k kms on it (16k miles).

Could the control arm bushings really have worn out this quickly?

perhaps it is just the way the part reacts to cold regardless of age?

My SS/TC makes the same noise. It has all winter and has 8k on the clock.

My SS/NA made the same noise from when I bought it until its untimely end.

My car has 35k and they went out, its a design flaw, having those cutouts in the bushing, Most likely meant for a softer ride, but the solid ones make the car feel more solid then mushy.

are they hard to replace? I will perhaps track down a solid bushing and replace it.
