Oil Life - To trust or not to trust....

Had my car since Dec. '05

This is actually the 3 month anniversary with my car.

Currently sitting at 3400KM (about 2100 miles). I called the dealership to inquire about the oil change and such. They are saying to wait for oil life to dip down under 10% or 5000KM whichever comes first.

Mainly wondering about if you guys trust the oil life, and when you had taken your cars for the first oil change.

Trust it they've been on the corvettes since at least 1990.
the oil life meter is not new technology.
and check your oil every 2000km you'll see that it's pretty good.
I usually get about 10000km, don't change it at 5k there is no point

I change mine when my guage tells me (about every 7500 miles), and my oil level is still great, and the oil isn't black yet.

I trust it. I'm like Toronto tho - I change it around 20% just to be safe. That was still over 7000 miles last time.

i dont trust it at all. my oil life said 53% when the check engine light came on. so i pop the hood and what do i see absolutely no oil at all. none zip dry as **** and i had 1,000 more miles to go till i hit 3,000 from the last one so i only had 2,000 miles on it since the last change. strange huh?? i took it in right away to get serviced. havent run dry since. the service dep. said they might have put in the wrong oil.. WoW huh??ever since then every 3,000 to 4,000 miles my oil get changed so no i dont trust it. its a computer it can mess up. check the dip stick every now and then.

I keep an eye on it, but change my oil every 5000 miles. Funny thing is that the dealer that I go to, sends me reminders to have it changed every 3000 miles. The service manager tells me "that is what they 'recomend' at that dealership."

Mine stays at Zero%. You get the low oil message for about a week then it goes away (well mine for that matter).

I trust the oil life monitor...I have had my car since Oct 05, I have over almost 22,000 kms on it and hav only had to change the oil 2 times...I check my oil everytime I get gas...if the oil is dirty it is time for a change, and the OLM has not been wrong yet.

I trust mine, I just check my oil LEVEL every week. The meter is for life of the oil, not to tell you if it's low or not. As long as the level is good, I change mine at 10%

i never go by it always go by 3000 miles/ 5000 kms. Im positive the oil life system works and works well but it's the idiots out there that don't know when ot change oil or what an oil light even looks like.
