open the door, map lights stay off?

My car has been sitting for about 3 1/2 months due to me being out of the country, and when i got back and opened the door, the map lights dont turn on. I mean if i press the button to turn them on they work, but arent they supposed to turn on when i open the door. They flicker a little bit too when the door gets slammed... any help would be appriciated!

If you open the passenger door, do the map lights come on?
If you open the drivers door with the engine running, do you NOT get the "Door Ajar" warning?

If yes to both, the door jamb switch on the drivers side may be stuck or defective.

It is located on the front door jamb, about even with the bottom of the dash.

If it is stuck, you can try squrting a little WD40 (or similar) into the switch and try to work it a bit, see if it frees up.
If that doesn't work, a new switch should only set you back < $10.00 at any auto parts store. Bit of a pain to change as you need to access it from the back but doable if you have any mechanical skills.
