poor mpg problems

Can a dirty fuel filter cause poor mpg? What are all the things that can cause poor mpg?

Spark plugs, air filter, dirty oil, and of course a dirty fuel filter

well it says 28 on the meter but from my calculations (from a full tank from the start, reset the trip meter then divide number of miles since last fillup by number gallons ) I got 24 mpg. I was just thinking that was kinda low. I have an auto trans and I rev up to about 3500 rpm before it shifts. I drive moderately not too fast and not too slow. Just how accurate is that meter anyway?

I am averaging 8.5 L/ 100 km which equals 27.7 mpg (city) and 6.7 L/100 Km = 35 mpg (highway). So roughly 588km/ / 50 L tank if I drive consevitively. We are also at 3400 feet above sea level here.

Don't forget underinflated tires will make fuel economy go in the ******* as well.

Right now 100% pure city driving I'm looking at 26.2 mpg.

Theres you answer right there. If you keep it under 3,000, I bet you would see an improvement. I get 26, and all I do is drive city traffic. I typically only get it to 2,500, and I keep up with traffic just fine.
