pop goes the shift knob

Noticed today as I shift my knob was making a clicking noise, I ignored it and would 'worry about it later'

well later came around 9pm tonite, as I am at a stop, take off in 1st (at normal rate) and shift to second pretty hastfully, and there goes the knob, into the center of the car. ha..
Heres some pics of what the knob looks like and the stick. Also I noticed when I looked into passenger area the springy thing with foam on it, took a pic (I guess its for the reverse lock) as without the knob or that, the lock will come off the stick.

Maybe this is a good thing and I can put a custom one on?

Seems to be a common issue.

I've seen the shift diagram pop off (mine is), but never the whole thing.

Thanks, and I don't think i'll go with a shorter shifter just yet, although I am really interested in a new knob. I think I remember some other posts where you can get shifter re-done to allow "generic" knobs that will screw on.

Wow you have a lot of brown stuff in the little slot between the silver ring the center counsel area, need to clean her. Whats up with the area around the radio painted blue?

Ok it seems like the '05 guys have trouble with the shift knob poping off, and '06 guys have trouble getting the damn thing to budge! I installed my B&M shifter last night and had one hell of a time getting the stock knob off! I had to yank and pull and struggle for like 20 mins before the damn thing FLEW off. Wish I had your problem...

I was ripping through first gear and went to slam it into to second. I missed the shift and the knob abouy hit me in the head! Glad it didn't, I would have been out cold.

I took it to the dealer because it wouldn't stay together. To fix it they used epoxy. For that, I'm taking it to the dealer to have them intall my short throw.

I spilled energy drink one time and thought I cleaned it up, I did on the black but I guess missed the silver part. that's rust, I need another one I guess.

heres part of the dash, looks lighter than it actually is. about the color of the seats in reality.

I used that krylon paint for plastics, the trim pieces just pop out, for the center you should remove the left and right trim pieces first, then remove center.

The plastic cap on top of the knob fell off along time ago, I put emblem adheasive under it, and it wont budge now. But this time, the Entire Knob came off.
