POP noise while deep into first gear...
Hello all!
Sunday morning, while going to church (for the first time in 4 months!), a grand prix pulled up next to me, at a stop light, reving the engine, jerking forward constantly, so of course i had to give him a run for his money. Keep in mind i've only been driving a stick for about 2 months. So we go, i beat him off the line and to the next stop light. Here's the problem.... Between my lack of experience and just not paying attention, i redlined first gear. When i redlined, there was a popping sound (not real loud or anything, just loud enough to be noticeable) and i seemed to have lost power. At the next stop light, i took it slow and was able to pull away in first gear without a problem. Took it on the highway, no problem. I have been driving it for about 3 days now without any issues.
Does anyone know what i might have experienced? Did i blow a head gasket or something? Thanks for your time everyone.

Thanks for your response SKDR! that is a bit of a relief. I guess a rev limiter prevents you from blowing anything or redlining too long? If you had time could you explain that to me?
