I was driving home from my girlfriends house tonight, and for the first time ever it just Popped right out of second gear. So naturally i put it back into gear, it goes in fine, no problem, then i press the gas, POP right back out again. WTF IS GOING ON? anyway have an idea?

 

dont use 2nd go straight to third

syncs are going? that would be my guess.

maybe the race with the audi messed your tranny up

could be the clutch too. when my clutch was going it would pop out of gear whenever i gave it a bit of gas. it almost broke my wrist but it was a diff car and a diff transmission

 

I remember reading on the fourm something about hoses interfering with the shift linkages causing the same problem.
Worth a look.

 

when this happened to me my second gear synchro went out

 

definitely sounds like a synchro to me.

 

did it in 4th in my old s10. was the syncros.

 

Used to happen to my eclipse all the time, but only for 5th gear, traded the car in for my cobalt before I could figure out what the problem was. How many miles does your car have?

 

Sounds like gear synchros to me too. Happened in my old 3000GT and was a fairly common problem with them, happens in my buddy's 07 Civic Si but it's a known problem with them too. Might need to look into rebuild/warranty work.

 

If it is only 2nd it could be 2 things. If it pops out when you INITIALLY shift it in or occasionally grinds it is a linkage cable. If it popped out when it was already engaged (ie no movement while your driving) then it is probably a syncro.

 

I can put it into 2nd gear, but as soon as i press the gas it pops out.

 

Does it pop out if you engage 2nd fully without pressing the gas? (ie just clutching it in)

 

My 2nd gear pops out sometimes when I initially shift into 2nd. Anyone know how to fix or adjust a linkage cable?
