purge valve keeps breaking
code p0496
$48 w/tax at the local dealership
I have searched already and have found forums on how to replace it, where its located, its function, but i dont find a answer as to why it throws the code. I have replaced it 3 times already within the last 3 months, the last time i replaced it was last friday and this afternoon on my way home from work the engine light came on. As soon as i got home i ran a scan and it gave me p0496 for the 4th time! At this point im really frustrated i called the local dealer and the guy at the service department told me to check the gas cap if not to take it in because he wouldnt know what else to do, i called another dealership and the guy at the service desk said he wasn't familiar with the model. the only good thing is that the part has a year waranty and it takes me about 40 min to fix (including the time traveled to the dealership to exchange the part) but still is there something else that might be making it throw the code?

I did a quick check on the wiring and the rubber tubes that connect to the valve there is one rubber tube all dried up so i took it off and went to the dealership, $37 for a rubber tube no thicker than 1/4 in. and like 10 in. long!!! going to local junkyards to see it i can find a f***ed up 2.0 with a good rubber tube if not ill just have to retrofit one

Do you keep your key in the ignition or take it out? You should always take it out of the ignition. The solenoid is still activated with the key in the ignition, making it wear out faster.
