Question

I'm having all kinds of weird sounds coming from my suspension. I have 18'' gunmetal wheels on my car which aren't stock with the 2.4L. If i take it into the dealership will they give me crap and not fix my car because I have those wheels. Should I swap with my stock wheels before I go in?

It may be easy for them to say "the 18 ''wheels contributed to more stress on the suspension" or some crap like that I don't think that thats the problem I'm just saying. Its actually been above freezing awhile here. I'm still getting clunk noises when I hit a bump from either wheel. When I go to stop i also get some creaking noise from the rear of the car so its just noises everywhere..

are the wheels from an ss/sc??? if they make a big deal about it just tell them they are the same wheels as an ss/sc and the 2.4l ss uses the same suspention as an ss/sc. if they are ss/sc wheels i doubt they will even look twice at them.

As long as you are running the wheels with an appropriate tire size, there is no reason for them to say that. If for some weird-ass reason you have 245/55's on them, then they may something.. but if you have 215/45, 225/40, 235/40, etc., the diameter of the wheel and tire together are the same, which is what counts. Remember, they have to prove that the aftermarket part you have contributed to the problem. Innocent until proven guilty.

If you've had problems with that particular dealership being a dick about parts, take it elsewhere. Serpentini up in Cleveland is great.

Not to mention, the suspension sits on top of the wheels, not the other way around. I'm sure they won't say **** more than "nice wheels."

Have you tried pulling the wheels off and getting in there and pressure washing everything really well? Could have some salt acting funky.

Yea the wheels are from an SS/SC just threw them on.. They have 215/45R18 tires which are stock for that wheel..

Nah i haven't pressure washed under there, I never thought about it. I don't know how salt could make a clunk.. All i know that the roads and streets here are **** and there are pot wholes everywhere maybe thats caused something.

Switch me cars for the day and you can take mine to the dealer in cleaved while I drive yours around columbus haha

I think the SS/NA has a different suspension than SS/SC am I wrong about that?? Cobalt SS/NA have a FE3 suspension and FE5 on the supercharged and turbocharged cars.

Did you use the lugs for steel rims on the aluminum 18 rims, there are different lugs for the aluminum rims(I think the angle on them is different but not sure)

If its a creaking noise that would be my guess.

The problem could also be that the suspension isnt seated properrly from jacking the car up.

Same lugs i had on the old 17'' SS/NA wheels. How do you fix a unseated suspension?

I used the same lugs when I went to SS/SC wheels, so you should be fine there. I know the roads in Ohio are ****, actually flattened one of my wife's SS/SC's tires just hitting a pothole once.

So glad to be down here in typically sunny (though currently rainy and nasty) NC.

You easily could've hit something and done actual damage, but so far as to your original question -- with the SC wheels they will not look twice at your car I'd bet.
