Thumbs down RANT: Freaking GM Quality

So Ive had my 05 cobalt ss for about 6 months now (July) and have put about 12k miles on it. Its been to the dealer an f'ing rediculous amounts of time and I just found out it gotta go back!

Service History:

1.) (Within 2 weeks) - Loose Panel behind seat, Loose Baffle in Exhaust (Sounded Like a Ricer)
2.) (Next Day) - Got Car Back and Parts Order
3.) (Next Week) - Parts Installed
2.) (Within 2 months) - Abs and Brake Light come on Intermitten.
3.) (Next Day) - Got Car need to order parts
4.) (Next Week) - Parts Installed
5.) (About a month ago) - Sun-roof is misaligned, Passenger Door Trim leather is crap (You all know what I am talking about)
6.) (Next Day) - Got Car order parts
7.) (Next Week) - Drop car off, later get call saying the part arrived BROKEN Wasted Trim
8.) (Next Day) Re-ordered Part and got car
9.) (Two Weeks Later) - Brought Car in for New Door Trim Panel and in-accurate fuel gauge.
10.) (Next Day (Yesterday)) - Got Car back, need to order new fuel wire and re-flash

So this brings us to last night...

I am at my local tire installers place getting my AWESOMELY GREAT PZero Nero M+S Tires installed for the winter (Ill write up a review later) and the installer calls me up and asks me to come on in to the garage...

He says, I got two things to show you.

- First, your front rotors are worn to crap... the pads fine, but the rotors are really badly grooved (and they really are)

- Second, The boot on the axel that drives the LEFT Drive Wheel is torn... Badly... right around the screw clamp that secures it... Theres no reason this would happen... is had honestly just WORN OUT!

So now I am going to Need to bring my car back for the wire... have them look at the boot... have them order the boot... have them install the boot...

This is F'ing pissing me off... For my to drop my car off at the Chevy Dealer is not so easy... I need a ride from there and to there...

I am sooo pissed right now... I am sick and tired of not having my car...

Thanks for listening...

Rant Out!

-Rich

P.S. Those Pzero Nero M+S (Mud and Snow) Tires are sooo god damn good! (Review to follow in an hour or so)

You may have a strong case to take advantage of lemon laws.

That sounds frustrating Hope it all works out.

If people could get a chance and make sure there axel boot (forgot the correct term) is ok on their car... I think it would be important to check them out and make sure there not a crappy piece like other things...

Depends from state to state, but in PA lemon law only applies if the vehicle was brought in 3 or more times for the same complaint, parts were installed, and the vehicle still was not fixed.

Question...

Lemon Law?

Never heard of it. What does it say, or how does it work?

Sorry for the dumb ass question but hey... we would all like to know I think.

Yep, first year for that engine/package.

I have an 2005 and not really any problems worth mentioing.

On another note telling someone that they shouldn't of purchased the car with all the problems is pretty much useless advise at this point, it's like a kick when their are down.

Lemon Law research for your state is a must! Most seperate safety issues from non-safety and time/mileage accordingly. Stay on top of these issues and be firm, not aggressive. You attract more flies with honey. The dealer/corporation will not pursue the lemon law for you and more than likely you will be forced to retain a lawyer.
Good Luck

One thing that has really pissed me off is the emblems, you think they could have gotten at least one on straight or in the right place.

Some other things to mention in this rant post-

-Glove box area rattling (and other areas).
-My passenger side door handle chrome came off when my gf was getting out of the car and it sliced her finger pretty good.
-Passenger door rubbing and scraping paint on door jam.
-Leather trim on pass door coming off
-Car sound like it's just gonna fall apart when the susp. is cold.
-Cold start issues like crazy.
-Intermittent sputters while accelerating

I too have the intermittent ABS/brake light come...what was the fix for that issue?

This is what they told me (work order sheet they gave me backs this up) Brake Fluid leaked from a faulty seal and shorted out the ABS Controller... (thats the abs light) The brake light came on intermittently because the resivior was at the point of being low... hitting a bump would make the fluid move and send a low level warning...

Dunno if that was it... but they replaced a ton of stuff and it went away. About 3 weeks later the lights came on again for about 15 seconds and went off... then again about another week later. Took it back in for that (amoung other things) and they said it needed a re-flash... that took care of it.

Good Luck

I would agree too, 100%, but the tear is RIGHT On the screw clamp (or c-clamp... whatever) that seals the boot to the shaft. It tore litterally about 2mm from the clamp in a circular pattern, IE going around the clamp. Its as if the clamp was on too tight and dug through the boot.

Don't press your luck. 3 weeks ago I posted in another thread that my '05 SS (built in Feb.) has not had any of the common problems mentioned on these forums, only problem being with the transmission and I felt it had more to do with the way the car was driven at the dealership before I bought it (97 miles, already) than poor build quality.

Since then, my sunroof switch fell down, I noticed the leather starting to pull away from the handle on the passenger side, 2 of the radio buttons on the steering wheel quit working, I finally drove it in cold weather (up in Atlanta area) and realized what everyone was talking about with cold starts, and isn't there supposed to be a little spring loaded metal flap that you push aside with the nozzle when you fill up with gas? I could swear there was one, every other car I owned had one, but I noticed last week mine no longer does, but I do see a little metal spring in there.

From my understanding a lemon law basically states that if you purchase a new vehicle, only to have a s**tload of problems with it, or a ton of the same problem, it's considered a lemon, and you are entitled to a replacement vehicle of the same model.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
