Rattling from front end
Alright so I have this rattling coming from the front end when I go over little bumps, it kind of gives off into the steering wheel too... I'm thinking either a strut or the top plate/bearings... any ideas? I went to midas to get it checked out and they told me the samething. Could it be anything with steering? I personally don't think it's steering because it drives, turns and responds perfectly fine.
I'm going to warranty whatever it is, think I'd have to take off the CAI if I go to the GM dealership for the repair?

tie rod ends!
dont take the CAI off, but go to the dealer and tell em to check the rod ends, they are on thier way out. Especially where you live, roads suck. makes me think ever more so its the rod ends. I grew up in the lehigh valley and the roads suck there and in the poconos, hit enough bumps and you will wear em out quick

Blah, alright I'm about to head out to the local GM dealer, hopefully I can get the car in as fast as possible to figure out what the problem is and I'll let you know what they said when I get back.

i have the same problem, and they said they wouldn't touch my car due to the suspension mods, and the dealer also said there is nothing wrong with the car and thats normal... My buddy who works for nissan said there is a TSB out on the 2.2 for that and he said it says dont fix.. or some bull like that

It was both of the tie rod ends that needed replacing on my car, one was replaced then 4 month later the other. It would clunk when ever I hit small rolling bumps. And yes, GM replaced them under warranty. The service adviser told me that Cobalts (all models) are know for the bad end links. The bad Saint John roads were to blame.

Eh, going to another place at 1:30 so they can check it today. So far from what people are saying it looks like the tie rod ends are the problem. Wonder if there are any aftermarket ones that will last long because my bumper to bumper ends at the end of september

Alright so they took a look at it and ends up that the steering shaft is messed up and that's what is making the rattling noise... they special ordered it so I should have it fixed friday or monday. Also they checked the turn signal arm (the problem I had with high beams turning off when turning on the right turn signal) so they special ordered that and I should have them both replaced once they recieve the parts :-). Atleast knowing is somewhat of a relief for now, just got to wait for them to receive the parts now.

I had the steering column issue apparantly so have a lot of other people. I also had a problem causing a similar noise that ended up being the sway bar endlinks.

there is a TSB for the steering knuckle. I had mine replaced but the sound eventually comes back, its really just annoying nothing to worry about though. There is just a little slop in the joint. I autocrossed the car for 2 years with no issues ever before or after replacing, even when the sound came back
