Rear Axle HELP!
Rear Axle HELP!
I need some help!!! Here's the quick version of my story. I bought a used 2006 SS Supercharged. I was told it was in a minor accident and the drivers door was replaced... I test drove it, bought it, loaded it on a trailer, and droped it off at my local Chevy dealer for a service. The dealer informed me of several things that needed to be fixed on the car. One witch was a bent rear wheel and a bent rear axle. I found a new axle hear online and I bought it. It arrived at the dealership today. I get a call from the service manager. He said that the new axle is different, the rotors are bigger and vented, the brake calipers are on different angles, and the parking brake cables are on different angles. As well, he said that the geometry of the rear axle is unknown. He also said that it appears to be a 2009 axle... As well, without confirmation that it will directly fit the 2006, he will not be able to install the axle. Does anybody have any advice? Can anybody confirm the the geometry of the "09" axle is the same as my "06"?
If your 06 is a SS/SC and the axle is for an 09 SS/TC then yes the rear axles are different as the TC's got bigger brakes (are these Brembo brakes too BTW??). As far as being a direct fit I've no clue. The dealer won't do it if it involveS custom bent brake lines and such. GL

Thanks! I stopped by the Chevy dealer today. I talked with the service manager and the technician that is working on my car. They agreed to "try" to install the "09" SS/TC axle into my "06" SS/SC. As you could probably imagine, it took plenty of persuading... The "O9" axle is complete with rotors and brake calipers. I'm not sure if the Calipers are Brembo, but they are definately larger than my "06" calipers. As well, the parking brake mechanism is different. The linkage on the "06" is verticle and the "09" is horizontal... I'll know in a day or two if it'll work. I'll let you know either way.
It will all work fine the e brake cable will fit the rear caliper hose is different from your car but you got the hoses withthe rear calipers I expect.
I run a complete LNF rear beam on my 2004 redline. Bolts on, works great, stiffer rear welded in bar than your 06 so ur handling and turn in is improved.

Update!
I just got my "06" SS/SC back from the Chevy Dealer. IT WORKED!!! The new "09" rear was successfully installed. Everything was a direct "bolt-up" install with one exception. The "09" rear didn't come with ABS sensors. The "06" ABS sensors would NOT fit the "09" hub. So, the techs just swapped out the hups and retained the original "06" hups and ABS sensors. Bottom line, the heavier rear I-beam, brakes, and rotors of and "09" was a direct bolt-in upgrade to my my 2006 Cobalt.
in actual fact the lnf abs will bolt up but will not work, wrong tooth count for your car. putting your hub bearings on is a direct fit and your abs works. Great mod, good for you!
