Question Rear Seat Squeak...

I have a 07ss/sc, the rear drivers side seat squeaks where it latches to the back. If you fold the seat down it goes away totally, but as soon as you fold it back up it squeaks like a mother.

Took it to the dealer and they said there was a bulliten on this, all they did was put some freaking tape around the hinge on the seat back, I guess this was supposed to insulate it and stop the metal rubbing together that was making the squeak noise. Well it has been a week now and it's back really bad. I have an appointment to take it back next week, who knows what the hel* they are going to do or try to tell me it's normal and there is nothing they can do. I am going to try and make them replace the whole latch and see what happens from there.

I am wondering if anyone else had this problem and how they fixed it. Any ideas would be great, thanks!

Will

same here

I did the bulletin to a T and it's back to squeaking. For the hell of it, I tried lubing the contact points and still no luck there. Well, right now I have another water leak that I'm in the middle of fixing and once I have enough time, I'll investigate the squeak more.

I still think that the clearance between the latch and the striker on the driver's side seat is a bit much. I'm betting that's where most of the noise comes from. I'll play with it once I have the leak all figured out. Among the other things wrong with this car...

Sorry, I wish I could be more help.

Thanks for your input, sorta good to know someone else is having the same problem, now I know I am not crazy and asking too much, lol

Going to give the dealership one more chance and then going to try some sticky felt type tape and see if that helps. I will keep you updated, please let me know how yours works out as well.

I had the same problem with my 2.4. I didn't feel like taking it back to the dealer, so I took a paper towel and wrapped the hinge with it and carefully put the seat back up. It eliminated the squeak for now, I've had it in for almost a month now. Its not the best of fixes but it was better then wasting a day at the dealer.

I'll let you know.

I had to replace my sunroof track today and now I'm waiting on the headliner. Tomorrow is my day off, so I may just do that after I come back from driving the car to insure the sunroof isn't noisy. I can't believe how cheap these sunroofs are....and they're around $800 NEW. That doesn't include the motor, the cover, or the glass either. Lame. Plastic FTL

Lol, sounds like a good fix, for now anyways Thanks for the input, will try something like that. Like I was saying before they did wrap it in tape (freaking looks like scotch tape) and followed the TSB, but it has come back of course. I am thinking of finding that sticking thin felt type tape stuff and wrapping it around there, just not sure where to get that stuff. Going to search around the internet. Will let you guys know what happens.

Mr. Slobalt, sorry to hear about all your troubles When I was looking for a cobalt I test drove one with a sunroof and noticed how cheap it was. And for that reason to be honest made sure to by a different one without a sunroof. I any case, hope all works out for you and it stays fixed this time

It'll probably break or leak again. I know one thing....I'm definitely NOT using the damn sunroof ever again. It stays closed for good. I don't trust it.
