ok guys i need a little help here. my a/c compressor **** the bed and need to replace asap. the clutch on its bad and dont want it to freeze up and screw somthing up. i have a new on order and will be here in a few days. but my question is whats the best way to remove the compressor. cause to me it seems like theres not a whole lot of room there to do much. (oh yeah this is on my 05 ss/sc). so if anyone has removed there ac compressor, can you please give me some direction to go in thanks.

 

i would like to know this as well, my a/c compressor bearing pulley is makeing sounds, i already bought a new one with the clutch, but i want to know if i can replace the pulley without dropping the commpressor. i dont want to drop the commpressor and recharge the a/c system... thanks!

 

Its 2 bolts, and its a bitch. It takes time thats all. Pretty much evacuate the air in the line. Disconnect the line. take tension off the belt. and unbolt the bolts. Then put the new one in and hook everything back up and give it a recharge.

 

Make sure you take the car to shop and have them evacuate the system.

If you just remove the line, you will get 2lbs of oil and refrigerant sprayed in your face and all over your car. You will also create an asphixiation hazard which could possibly kill you. Its will also contribute to the hole in the ozone layer.

Once the system is evacuated, just remove the belt, disconnect the lines, remove the 2 bolts holding it in place, and remove the compressor.

 

could also spray refrigerant in your eye and freez your eyeball solid and it will shatter inside your skull....

Cobalts hold about .9 lbs of R-134 freon but still get a shop to evac and recharge the system if you are going to do it yourself. If I recall correctly you take them out the bottom. I haven't done one in awhile but I do believe you remove the pass radiator support and roll the compressor out the bottom by the sub-frame. Its been awhile though

 

You dont have to remove the radiator support. It will come out a certain way. Hard to explain but you will find out when it comes time.
