Replacing air filter

I was wondering how often you should replace your air filter. GM says every 50,000 miles but that seems a little much. I have an intake and when I look at it it doesn't look too dirty, just some bugs that I pick out.
So what is the general time you should go before you replace it. Thanks!

no real need to with aftermarket filters. you clean them and reoil and they are literally like new.

you cant you have the dry stock one. you would have to invest into a k&n or a different type like the ingen just to name a few.

I clean and re-oil my filter once per year, so about every 15,000 - 20,000 miles or so.

idk about that, but if its a dry filter just get an aftermarket one as well as the K&N filter recharge kit and you wont have to replace it again for at least 40K. i have cleaned and reoiled my injen twice now and its still like new.

There are dry filters you can clean and re-use (AEM), but the 50k mile interval should be fine if you don't live in a dusty environment. I cleaned my AEM at about 25k miles (I live in Phoenix), and it wasn't even that dirty.

Most aftermarket filter makers also sell their own cleaning kits, generally available where ever you got the filter from, or from a nearby parts shop. If you're not sure, just go to said maker's website, and look up a list of authorized resellers.

i really need to get an actual CAI instead of the airbox mod (i.e. injen)

would you guys agree that we dont need the hydro shield. i looked in there and its basically covered pretty darn well from the rain and what not.

I don't see it being necessary unless you plan on submerging the front end of your car, in which case you may have other problems to worry about. I've driving through downpours and big puddles with no issues at all.

hmm my injen CAI fits perfectly... no rubbing at all. you have to tighten and position the rubber damper correctly.

edit-nvm, u have a 2.0, i heard those dont fit well

hmmm so the injen really isent a great pick.

so if you all could buy a different CAI, which would you rather go with?

i was thinking K&n becuase they are dyno'd as the "best" filters out there today, but $$$ is also a factor as well.
