Roll Pin gone agen!
Srt-killer I got your pm. I'm a Hyundai tech and I was talking to the other techs about this BS and it turns out back in the late 90's the 5 speed Elantra's had this same problem so Hyundai started sending out solid pins instead of weak ass roll pins. In order to install these on our cars you have t remove the PCM, fuse block, and fuse block holder. I then used a pry bar and wedged it between the trans mount and the pin and then pushed pin into the shift lever. Unfortunely I was only able to get one of these pins from Hyundai because they supposedly cost $40.
I have a spare roll pin, so i went to HomeDepot last night and bought a solid pin the same size. It only cost me 3 dollars for a 36" solid rod so i cut it to size and im taking it to the dealer tomarow and hope they can use it.
Sorry to hijack, but when your roll pin broke did your shifter just go limp. I think this is what happened to my car last night. It wont go into any gear the shifter just moves freely. Thanks
Man that dealer wasted a **** load of time. You just have to remove the Fuse box, its holder, and then then the PCM. You then push the roll pin in a little to start it. Then wedge a pry bar between the upper trans mount and the shift lever and push the roll pin in. Job takes a little over a half an hour.
^^ Yeah it is a pretty easy fix....1st time it happened it took the dealership 2 weeks to fix, 2nd time i didn't feel like waiting that long again so i fixed it and it took about 2 hours, 3rd time I had it done in about a half hour....lol I have it down to a system now, that's pretty sad, but the current roll pin has lasted 6 month with out breaking so that's good
soo im going to resurrect this thread.. i want to get a stronger roll pin.. mine went recently.. was fixed .. and now i think its f*ed again
can i buy a roll pin from the dealer and find something stronger and hte same size?
not to sure i want to go doing the whole bolt thing right yet

Sorry to resurect this but i didnt want to make a new thread . HAppened to my car also . HAd to drive it home only using 4th gear so my clutchis prob toast too.... Dealer gave me **** said its impossible to break that and i must beat beating the **** out of the car anyone else get this?
The dealership is totally bullshitting you bro. I had my shift lever roll pin brake twice until I took a SOLID, NOT hollow roll pin, tapered pin that we had to use on the old Hyundai Elantras that had this problem. Over a year later and its still holding up perfect. Unfortunetly I can't get anymore of these pins because the TSB is from the late 90s.
