this has been going on for a long time, i just brushed it off for the past few months cause the car runs fine....

when i shift into 2nd (only 2nd) about 80% of the time the CEL will turn on. i dont have problems really, shifting. every now and then it jumps a little when shiftiong, but i always figured it was me giving too much gas or letting the clutch go too quickly.

a lot of times the CEL will come on and stay on for a day or 2.. sometimes a week. sometimes it'll come on, than i go get gas an hour later and when i turn the car back on, the light is off. when the light does go out though, usually the same day it'll come back on when shifting into 2nd. today when i started my car the cel wasnt on, and i drove a decent amount around the city (like 15miles maybe) in stop/go traffic and it didnt come on at all.

was sitting around pondering today while cleaning the interior and thought maybe i should get the tranny fluid changed or maybe my 2nd gear is messed up. myself as well as my cousin (previous owner of the car) learned to drive stick on this. hell it could even be the clutch, idk.

any ideas or similar experiences?

 

Next time it comes on, go to autozone and have them scan it. Then you might know a little better what your dealing with. Other than that, were guessing in the dark here.

 

You need to find out what that code is for anyone to help figure it out.

 

does it flash when your shifting?

if it flashes that usually means its a cat damaging code. meaning your too rich on o2 sensor 1. the rich fuel mix with melt your cat. meaning clogging it in the long run. id take it to the dealer so they can look at ALL the data your car has stored for it. you CAN NOT do that with the autozone scanners. plus the dealership will tell you what they wanna replace and you can just do it your self. just pay the 1 hour labor for check out.
