Sloppy boost gauge? Low boost?

Hey all, been awhile since i've been on here, but I cant seem to figure out a problem I'm having.

Okay, so over the past few weeks, I've noticed that my boost gauge is acting up. Instead of having a fluid motion, it kind of jumps from point to point during acceleration. I also noticed that while cruising, it rests at 18hg, and wot only puts it up to 7psi. I'm not sure if this is the gauge gone bad, or if it is because of a leak in the vaccum line (not sure if this is correct but i've heard of similar symptoms resulting in this problem on css.net). I honestly can't tell if the car is pulling any less, since I don't typically rag on it. My mods are gm stg2, 2.9", vibrant header/dp, magnaflow exhaust, injen intake - I'm taking it to the dealer, but with their track record, they won't find anything wrong unless i point them in the right direction. Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks for the help everyone

If it's an electronic gauge, I would suspect the gauge itself, or the sending unit.
If one of the windings on the synro go out, it gives a 120 degree dead zone (1/3 of the circumfrance) where the needle can't get accurate signals to move in.

Does the car seem to run okay? Get the car on an open road, FLAT open road, and slowly push the gas more and more, so that you will have a steady increase in MAP (and an stead increase on your boost gauge) and see if the car acceleratos smoothly and if the gauge moves smoothly or erractic. The gauge should be porporional to the ammount of power the engine is producing. If the engine and car stays steady and the gauge isnt, then it could be an indication problem. If the gauge goes crazy and your car studders, or jerks abit, then it could be a air problem.

Thanks for the response!
And yea the car runs totally fine. I've tried what you said and it's steady.
I've also done some pulls and it seems to boost just fine. For example, if i'm going 65 mph, the car is steady and the boost gauge just goes crazy.
