So you guys wont believe how i got an oil leak

So this morning when i was leaving for work, i backed out o my parking space at my house, went to the end of the road to turn around and started driving. I heard this massive clunking noise and felt it too. I was like AWESOME!! Wtf broke. So i get out and look under my car. I see this huge ice ball wedged between the car and the road. So i was like ummm.. How do i get this out. I didnt really have much to do except to wait for it to melt or just go and hope it breaks up and nothing happens. So i was gonna be late of i had to wait so i just said **** it an drove expecting it to break because well, its ice. So i started to drive an it didnt ******* break! It was ******* scraping under my car for like 15 seconds going 5 or 10 mph. When it came out from under my car it didnt break. It wound up under my left rear tire and i drove over it an it still didnt break. And yes it WAS an ice ball. Anyway. I didnt think much of it so i got to work. Worked. Went on lunch. Came back worked until i got out. As i was leaving i saw a small puddle under my car so i put some on my finger and smelt it, and it was clearly oil.

So i brought the car into work and put it in my lift. The ******* ice ball punctured my oil pan and it was dripping consistently like every 10 seconds. So i used JB WELD and left it there. Tomorrow and im gonna look and pray that it set good. I. Checked over the rest of the car and it bent the **** outta my exhaust heat shield towards the back. So i had to drill a whole and bolt it up. Watever. That wasnt a big deal but so stupid. There were scrapes all over the bottom of the car. It couldve been alot worse so im happy about that but i could not believe that it happened from an ice ball.

I thought i would share. Sorry for the length but im sortof venting here.

o well is really all i can say. haha. i plan on getting a new car relatively soon anyways but thats not the point. and yea i wish i could afford a second car to drive in the winter but lets be honest. i have an 06 lsj with 74,000 miles on it. its worth like, $9,000. i dont exactly need to garage it ya know? i love the car but its cheap haha. like i said. i wanna get rid of it soon and im hoping the jb will hold. im pretty certain it will tho.

Or put a hole in the oil pan, and half ass it back together. sounds like jacking it up would've been better, though i will say i probably would've kept going, hard to tell as i wasnt there.

Jb weld isn't going to hold. It has oil coming in behind it. Highly doubtful that will last. I would take the pan off, clean it thoroughly and get the crack welded

Depending on where it is on pan. Drill out hole, tap it, let oil drain through hole to get rid of shavings, insert bolt.

If u clean the pan of oil jb weld will hold but if u have the pan off to do that might as well pay a welder 10 bucks to throw a quick tig bead on it

Yeah but oil was leaking from behind the Jb weld while it was setting. That's the concern of mine

Exactly the jb weld won't set if oil is on it. At least it shouldn't

I drained the oil and made sure it wasnt leaking from that spot anymore when i put the jb weld on it. I cleaned off the area with brake cleaner. Oil being behind the jb isnt an issue. Good to hear u know what ur actually talking about tho (not sarcasm)

I feel for you, I had this exact same thing happen... EXCEPT, I was lucky enough to have a nice sized hammer in my back seat. I just pounded away at the ice until it was small enough to pull from underneath.

Man I used to have a 2.4 SS and it got a hole in it from a rock in the road anyway mine was to big to have welded up so I went to eBay. To my understanding the lsj, 2.4 and the 2.2 and even the hrr share the same oil pan. I picked up an hhr oil pan for 40 bucks with free shipping it was used but it was in great condition
