Some help on my tranny question please

Hi,

I bought my SS/SC new a month ago and have about 1,200 miles on it. Twice I had some difficulty shifting into 1st gear from both a stop and in traffic. It feels like 1st gear is being blocked. I made sure that I was pressing the clutch all the way. It does eventually shift into 1st if I shift into 2nd then 1st. Any ideas?

Sounds like a sychro is grabbing on you. If it has only happend once or twice, that is probably kindda normal then.

i've had that happen too. i usually just go back to the very center neutral and try again, then it works.

HAH wow, I thought i was the only one... I have been having the same problem and already took it to the dealers but they can't "get it to have the problem" or how ever they say it. It did it to me a couple times and once i had to feather the car from 3RD GEAR just cause i was in traffic.. Usually the 2nd to 1st will get it to work but sometimes nothing will work...

they "weren't able to duplicate the problem you're having"?

I work in tech support... I use that line a lot.

Maybe its the lockout for first thats giving you the trouble. Some times I have to be at a dead stop to get it in and other times it will go into gear no problem while I am rolling.
Its a pain when your at that speed were your to slow for second but know you wont be able to get ity in to first.

Do the SS/SC's really have a 1st gear lockout? I never knew about that, is it something stated in the owners manual?

So is it safe to say this is a non issue? Im just worried that I'll be in an intersection selecting first gear and get into some accident.

I had this happen to me a few times when the car was brand new. I simply changed my driving habit... I always go to 2nd... then to 1st... (with the clutch pushed in) hasn't happened since.

I think these cars just are that way.

Unhappy

Well, I thought everything was OK, I took the suggestion of shifting to 2nd then 1st. That worked fine until last week when I was at a stoplight and I couldnt shift to 2nd and I was like WTF? I instead shifted to 1st and that worked. 2nd felt like it was being blocked just like 1st gear was beofre. And I was like enough of this and I took it to teh deealer and the dealer told me that they couldn't duplicate the problem. Man I hope my transmission isn't going to get damaged soon. I only have 1700 miles on it.
