Start up problems
I have a weird start up problem with my 2006 cobalt LS. Basically, it starts up fine most of the time but gives me some trouble every now and then. I turn the key (clutch pressed) and it dosen't crank up at all, lights are on, but nothing happens. The solution is usually pulling out the key and trying again and eventually it starts up. On the dash theres a light that comes on and looks like a lock but I'm not sure.
Overall the car starts up and runs fine 95% of the time and I don't have any electrical problems, locking unlocking doors, lights, fuel gauge or stalling problems.
Another little problem that I recently noticed is a delay when starting up the car I turn the key and it dosen't crank right away but has a 1-2 second delay.
I'm not familiar with these cars so I want to know if this is something that can be solved by resetting the ecu by removing the battery or if theres something worse developing starter failure, ignition or ecu failure.

Sounds to me like your pass key system is failing,The reader near the ignition that reads the key to make sure someones not stealing the car and is using a key programed into it.
