Steering adjust stall: Problem solved

Quite a few months back, Ray from revitup made a post concerning the stall he got while adjusting the tilt on his steering wheel. He was driving down the highway, opened up the lock handle and brought the wheel down untill it couldnt move any further and bottomed out. This suddenly shut his car off while still moving down the highway and inturn, freaked his wife out. He then asked us all to head out to our cars and to turn them on and do the same thing he had done, but in the safety of our driveways. We received mixed results, with about half the cars dieing and half the cars not dieing. Strange, huh?

Well It makes sense now. I had my dealership look into this last week because it's really a safety issue with the car and my service advisor was also pissed about it when I showed it to him(not pissed at me, pissed at GM). After racking thier brains for the better part of a day, the techmonkeys over at Midway finally came up with a answer to the problem...It's our keys. Yup, those of us with an ample amount of keys and gadgets such as knives, mini flashlights and keychains will encounter this issue because when you bottom out the steering wheel the wieght of all the junk that's attached to your ignition key ever so slightly pulls back on the key, causing the ingnition to be pulled out of the run position. My dealership is going to get some sort of rubber "thing" that will stop this problem, although I'm not exactly sure what the "thing" is. Oh well, at least we finally have an answer.

Big problem, simple solution, typical Chevy.

Not a big problem
There was a bulletin (NOT a recall or TSB) issued in October that includes a part number for an "insert" that goes inside the ignition switch bezel, to better support your keys. This typically only occurs if you have much more than the usual 4 or 5 keys +remote. This issue can also be caused by people pulling on a "lanyard" that has become so popular as a key chain.
(I recently seen someone using a lanyard as a foot rest while in cruise control!)

Simple fix? Dont Do That and put your keychain on a diet!
