You could check the power steering fuse but if it was that you would have a code.

X2 on the steering motor needing replacement .
Take it to the dealer and get it done under warranty!

Maybe its the wide tires these cars have? Most vehcails the steering is more difficult to operate when stopped. Since ours are electric it's possible that somewhere its programed NOT to operate when the vehical is stopped?

My bad. Lol the electric power steering motor. In my trucks it's been the pump. Just used the wrong terms

Steering shaft would probably make noise and you would notice it all the time. The steering gets easier when your in motion even without the aid of the electric motor.

Power steering control module might be shot. If it can't tell that you're trying to turn it then it won't try to help.

Actually now that you mention it I think mine does this a little too. Has something to do with the new algorithm to keep the motor from overheating since it has to work so hard when stopped.

So the new rack and pinion solved the issue with not being able to turn the wheel so easy when stopped

This is pretty common, for some reason the module doesn't see that you're trying to turn the wheel when completely stopped. Inch one direction or the other and it springs to life.

Is the module the power steering motor? or the computer?

Don't quote me, but I believe it's the power steering module, there's actually a small computer there next to the motor that gets the current rotation, wheel position, and steering wheel acceleration data which it then kicks out to the ECU and the power steering motor.

The power steering motor is literally that, just a motor with 2 power wires. When current is applied to wire 1, wire 2 becomes ground and it goes one direction, when current is applied to wire 2, wire 1 is now ground and it runs the other way.

I actually noticed my left tire was low on air and filled it back up now (215/40/r17).... it seems to be back to normal steering when stopped i hope it doesnt come back and was just the low air.

Also my steering wheel makes a whole bunch of rattling noise when going over bumpy roads . Has anybody experienced this (like my steering wheel is about to fall apart lol)
