Steering Wheel Crunching Noise
Steering Wheel Crunching Noise
My Girlfriend drives a 2007 Cobalt LTZ and about 2 weeks ago the power steering went out. I did my research, found out that its a common issue, bought a replacement steering column off ebay with a power steering unit. I successfully put the new power steering unit on but now for some reason when turning the wheel in either direction its making this crunching noise, almost like a peice of plastic is clicking on something amidst turning. Also the "service airbag" code pops up on her display. I did not mess with the steering wheel itself when pulling the column, only removed the bolts to the power steering assembly. Does anyone know what could have caused this and if their is a remedy without having us go to the stealership?! Its not a problem with the power steering, the sound is coming from directly behind the wheel and is only a problem when turning.

go to autozone and see if theres a code. gonna suck if shes driving and that airbag pops out, out of no where. now that i think about it the thought is hilarious but shes gonna **** you up if it happens
Its obvious there is a code. The noise is not related to the power steering unit. I believe the problem the be mechanical and not electrical based on the noise.
