Strange noise coming from engine/supercharger
Strange noise coming from engine/supercharger
So I took a video in hopes that it could explain better than me. I think it might be the supercharger bearings, but I don’t want to go chasing things. I’d rather get a definitive answer from someone who knows more about these cars than I do.
It just got fresh oil, a new coupler and resealed less than a thousand miles ago. But I’m taking it apart today and putting my spare on, so I guess we will see what happened. Thanks for the input!
The case bearings are on the other side of the rotor-pack. The needle bearings that are pressed into the case. Did you replace or re-grease those?
So I thought for sure the noise was coming from the supercharger, but I put a different S/C on and the noise is still there. I’m starting to lean toward tensioner or idler pulley bearing. I didn’t service the S/C, previous owner did so I am not sure what was done. But the replacement s/c has a slightly larger pulley on it and the car feels a lot more powerful, so I’m wondering if there was in fact something wrong with it. Either way, I have spare pulleys, so I’m going to replace everything this weekend and see what happens. I have been chasing issue after issue with this car since I bought it. It’s gettig frustrating.
Most times the best tool to pinpoint the noise is your own set of ears. Move closer to each potential source one at a time and listen for the sound to become louder. I would think it is a bearing somewhere.
Most times it’s just me, and the noise only makes itself known when throttle is applied. Stupid electronic throttlebody. I am pretty confident it’s a pulley bearing. It’s just weird how the noise travels in the engine bay.
