Suspension clunk: response from GM
Ok thanks that'll give me something to work with. My car was at the dealership today and they coudln't make the noise I was describing all day supposedly till one of the service guys in a shirt and tie took my car out and noticed something with the steering wheel it didn't feel right and was almost a lil loose when he shook it, so it's still there and they are gonna look at it again today. Thanks
if the suspension is clunking when you hit a bump, it is more than likely your intermediate steering shaft that needs to be replaced. i have had mine replaced already and the same thing happened to my dad's malibu. there's a tsb out on it and the stealerships shouldn't give you any grief on the issue at all.
I Have The Same Problem
The noise you are referring to is a design or part quality issue. Either the knuckle head engineer that designed the problematic part deserves to be fired, or the people making the part or parts in question need to be fired.
I've had the noise since about 4,000 miles and I noticed the following:
I've had the noise since about 4,000 miles and I noticed the following:
- The noise is getting exponentially worse.
- The noise problem started on the passenger side but at 10,000 miles began on the drivers side as well.
- The noise on the passenger side is dampened when someone sits in the passenger side seat.
- The noise goes away after driving for a few minutes or so.
- The noise did not go away after having the strut mount and the ball joint replaced.
- The noise did temporarily go away after jacking the passenger side of the car up until the wheel was off the ground.

Has any body replaced the sway bar end link to try and solve this problem? This sounds like the issue more than anything. It is a common problem in gm cars, chev uplander, chrysler vans, and ford vans.
I guess I have four options: 1.) Hope that GM supplies a better set of bushings as replacement. 2.) Look for aftermarket bushings and hope the dealer will install them under warranty. 3.) Buy a case of bushings so I can replace them every time I have the oil changed. 4.) Get rid of the car.
GM! Why hast thou forsaken me!

I'm having the same thing where when it's a cold wet day ( or just cold ) the right front has a clunk in it for about 1 mile... but then the sound goes away completely.
I've heard that it could be a CV joint, or possibly a bad strut. The latter being that the fluid is all gummed up or something, and after it gets moved around, it's fine.
Seeing as mine is an 06 with almost 50K on the clock, I think I'm on my own.... YAY!!!!!!

NO MORE NOISE !
Dealer replaced ANTI-SWAY BAR bushings and links that connect to the strut. Mechanic said that the link that connects the anti sway bar to the strut was bad and they replaced both sides.
Car handles like it did when I first bought it now. Don't think I've ever been in anything so tight before.
GOOD LUCK !

Good to hear you got teh issue fixed... might have to buy those here soon and try it and see. I've been toying with getting a bigger sway bar anyway... so might as well..
BUT.. first I have to be able to get in and out of the SS 1st......lol

Brian, bwoody is now making upgraded sway bar links for the same price as stock. I'm toying with getting those.

Im trying to understand this. So you guys had a clicking noise when you went over bumps? I have a clicking noise sometimes, more often than not when i turn the wheel. And once in a while going over bumps. this is from a bad/defective strut your saying?
ahh... well those would take me out of stock.... so I'll just go with the OEM stuff for now.
No... not a clicking noise... a CLUNKING noise...
I get a clicking noise when I back up or pull out.... and that's a WHOLE different issue there.
SOme say axles.... some say CV joints... who knows....
