tap noise

hey guys dont worry its not another "whats that ticking noise during warm up? oh its the direct injection" this is another noise.

I am familiar with the coninuous ticking coming from the direct injection solinoid during warmup.

This noise occurs after i let it warm up for a bit in the garage, pull it out and drive it for a few miles, then come to a stop (lets say at a light) where the engine comes to an idle. I hear maybe 3-4 light taps (not alot of clicks) then its done. It wont do it again all day.

I have a trifecta tune but i never even think about turning the tune on until the car is fully warmed up. ( i dont push boost until the cars coolant reaches between 180-200 degrees).

Like i said 3-4 light taps then i never hear it again (stock tune).

Just curious with the replies...

thanks

Lemme guess... sounds like someone's tapping on the top of your trunk lid (or from inside)? I've heard a few Cobalts do it. The best I can tell is that it is a body panel expanding from the exhaust heat and "creaking" somewhere. Seems harmless. When passengers ask me what it was, I just say, "Fuggidaboutit"

exactly!!! i have the factory wing spoiler and i thought it was that. everytime i heard the noise i could have swore it was coming from the rear but couldnt pin point it. Thanks man i feel alot better. I didnt think it was anything serious but i def wanted to get a second opinion before something not so serious turned bad.

thanks again!

no, it's noise relating to the evap system

"Condition/Concern:
Shortly after cold starting the engine, 3-5 brief knock noises may be heard from the rear of vehicle that sounds like someone tapping on the rear window or quarter panel. This may be the result of the EVAP vent valve going through a normal diagnostic cleaning cycle.

Recommendation/Instructions:
If this concern is experienced and the noise is isolated to the EVAP vent valve, inspect the vent valve pipe to ensure that it is routed properly and not grounding out. If the pipe is routed properly, this noise should be considered a normal characteristic and no repairs should be performed."
