Thermostat replacement anyone?????

hey does anyone have any photos or how-to's on replacing the thermostat on these cars. I have a 2.2l, i dunno if its any different from the other engines thermostat. can anyone help me out?

Its on the back driver's side of the block. Its not hard to do... but its not the easiest thing in the world. Go to Autozone and peek at a Haynes Manual.

Why do you need to replace your thermostat?

thanks man! cause my coolant temp dosent go past 160 degrees after running for a while, i believe the stat is stuck open. u think?

Its probable. Take a long time to warm up? Heater not as hot as it used to be? Does the Temp drop down when you take it on the interstate?

It is more than likely stuck open. Just replaced a stuck open one in my Jetta.



Thermostat is #9...

Yeah... its not far off. My SS runs at around 173* in the winter. 160ish is sort of low.

It would be smart for him to replace it though, since he lives in Buffalo. In the colder climates, it is important to warm that engine up.

ya and even in summer i lived in Pittsburgh and it wouldnt go past 167 when before it used to usually stay around 192. so im pretty sure the thermostats the prob.

It's a complete PITA to get at on the 2.0, hopefully it's easier on a 2.2.

i agreeee my normal temp no the highway in the winter is 174. I NEVER see it at 160 steady...

where tho lol because they told me the radiator hose that connects to the block is where it is.....where is behind the engine more specific plz? lol sry jus got a cobalt traded my monte ss supercharged in for the cobalt and the coolant temp has been running arounbd 100-130 degreesssss :/ i kno sry bout the bump

All Ecotec's share same setup from what I recall. LNF maybe different, but that doesn't regard you.

Won't harm anything but your gas mileage. Drive it all you want. I wouldn't do any pulls though.

so when i called chevy they told me its on the right hand side of the engine when looking at it by the upper radiator hose near the water jacket plug next to the intake????

ya i got it its like connected with 3 hoses and i need to unplug them to get to it on the back right behind the crankshaft pretty much

So Gm checked it nothings wrong with the thermostat at all its opening and closing....they said they cant find anything wrong with the coolant.....its still running 100-130 degrees i do not why at all...this mrning on the highway it ran 105-110???? what is up with this

Is the gauge reading in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit?
