Okay, I am going to go step by step why the battery/ignition/trunk are designed so so so stupidly.
Okay you work until 11pm you get off work and you stick the keys into the ignition turn them alas you notice battery is dead, no engine turn over. So you keep your jumper cables in the trunk/battery jumper in the trunk GREAT! Ill just press this button and pop trunk whoops trunk release is electric... simple enough to remove the key and get into the trunk... oh wait Nope Key gets stuck in ignition. Okay I'm going to try folding down seats... OH wait access to fold down seats are in the TRUNK!!
What the ****? Seriously?

Are you ******* kidding me? Do you not pay attention to the outside world at all? This was huge news a few months ago, literally ever cobalt every made was recalled for a new ignition switch after at least 7people died from them shutting off after hitting a hard bump

The recall has nothing to do with the key not giving you the key back since your battery is dead it wont let you get it. All you have to do under your steering wheel there is a small little door on the plastic take it off and stick your thumb inside you should feel a small spring press it and it will let you get the key. You have to keep pressing the spring and with the other hand take out the key
No, tis not the case, it gets stuck in ACC and you have to press a Lever to get the key removed, you can turn the key all you want it wont swap from acc

I didnt have keyless entry on my old cobalt lol thats how i learned. But i had to replace the shifter as it wasnt disengaging completely and wouldn't let the key pass from ACC (auto tranny). Killed my battery like that
Ya mine has done exactly that and I moved the steering wheel back and forth rapidly and it released, even with the steering locked
