Ecotec's are noisy , it's prolly just the valvetrain making noise.

okay...it only ticks when it is idling...once i rev it up...it just like goes away... or the engine over powers the noise..

That is the normal sound of the valvetrain. It is probably louder beacause the big air box on the engine isn't muffling it as much. The cat also makes little ticking noises when the car is running and for a little while after it is off.

Also 89 octane sould be fine. I have tried 89, 91, and 93 gas and monitored the knock sensors with my daskhawk and I have found no difference in my 0-60 times and the engine doesn't register any issues with knock. Every once in a while with 89 I have seen 1 knock out of 100 cycles which can happen with 91. So there might be a slightly higher chance of knock but nothing to worry about.

if it is a five speed, try it with the clutch pedal pushed in. mine does that, took 3 techs before someone told me that was normal on the 2.4s

Yeah normal valvetrain noise. All the cobalts make some noise at idle.

Also putting higher octane gas in your car does nothing at idle... it only matters when you are actually putting the engine under a load when it needs the extra protection from detonation or unless you run like 13:1 compression in the engine.

It could also be your fuel injectors making the nosie which would also be completely normal!

I almost forgot about the injectors. They also go click click as they open and close.

some of the SCs have been blowing oil out at the dipstick.

check the neck of it, see if it's wet there.
