Ticking Top End??????????????????

there is a slight ticking noise coming from my top end. It sounds like a lifter noise that seems to be coming from the exhaust cam shaft.... Has anyone else had this problem????

rod bearing... lol what?!?!

could definitely be lifter tap, does anyone know if the valvetrain uses hydraulic lifters, solid, or rollers?

There hydraulic lifters, so I believe that it is a lifter noise. it went away for an hour, then came back.. It's intermittent. I guess Ill just keep checkin it, thanx for the responses.

My car does that sometimes too on startup, but it goes away within a couple minutes. Should we take it to the dealer?

hmm well to my knowledge hydraulic lifters are non adjustable, they simply pressurize with oil and adjust themselves to the correct height, might be an oil pressure problem, low oil, oil is having a hard time getting to the very top of the head

when my car had a ticking noise back in the day before I had to replace the motor, it started a week after I used non gm 4718 oil (royal purple) the ticking sped up with rpm. couldn't figure it out till gm had torn my motor apart. what we found was the last cam lobe on intake cam right by the cam gear was worn away to almost nothing leaving 2 thin slivers of metal on either side and worn away between them. so it was still opening the valve. it sent that metal through the motor and scored oil pump gears and cylinder 4 wall. so if that's what ur hearing, take off valve cover and check to see if all ur lobes are still there. and hope u didn't use oil u shouldn't have.
