timing?

ok so im about to time my engine i lined up the mark on the balancer and timing cover, removed the cover(crank sprocket mark was at 5 o clock), i put the intake cam at 2 o clock and im about to put the exhaust sprocket on at 11 o clock. im just unsure if i did the break down correct. when lined up the balancer and timing cover i didnt check if i had compression so could my engine be 360 out and on the exhaust stroke instead of the compression stroke?

Never done it before, but Im thinking it wouldnt matter. As long as you have TDC on cyl 1 and you are setting up the cam timming when installing the sprockets.Im I wrong here.
Also wouldnt you be able to tell by the lobe positions on the cams what part of the stroke you were in on cyl 1.All valves closed on cyl 1 =compression stroke.

yup i think your right there is no compression stroke, the compression stroke is determined by the position of the cams so i dont think it matter either
