Tire rubbing seriously bad.

Hey guys i had a serious issue with my front right tire, inside tread/sidewall rubbed almost to the belts only in a patch of the tire, so intermittent rubbing issue.

Never noticed until i sold my enkeis this past week and removed them to sell. The tire size was 235.

Background: tires were fine that i can remember a couple weeks ago when i removed them to check suspension. I then proceeded to take my car into the shop for front control arm bushings and new powergrid end links. Shop did not mention tire damage. After the car came back, i of course wanted to test out my upgraded suspension. I took some high speed left hand turns resulting in a lot of understeer.

Now i have new OZ 17x8s with Michelin 225s and am checking after every drive for tire or wheel damage from rubbing. None i can see as of yet. I also have NOT pushed any hard turns since for fear of damaging my new set up.

Clearance by the strut assembly and top end link bolt are very tight. I think i should consider a spacer to prevent any potential rubbing.
I believe in the high speed turn the sway bar link top bolt got pushed out into the previous tire. Maybe the spring seat rubbed it during the turn, though i dont think the suspension geometry would allow that to happen.

Any input or experience would be greatly appreciated.

I will post pictures of inner clearance tomorrow.

When you say intermittent rubbing issues, was it the entire way around at one spot (like the circumference of a circle) or just certain spots along the sidewall?

one spot along circumference. About 16inch patch inner side of tread. Almost down to rim edge.

What was the sidewall height ratio?

Which Enkei's and what was their offset? And which OZ's do you have... and what is their offset?

It's been a while since I've looked at wheels for this bolt pattern, but I don't remember there really being much of a selection... but either way, offset matters.

enkei m52 18x8 40mm
Oz Alleggerita 17x8 40mm
Again, the enkeis were on for 2 years with zero issue. I rotated them many times and not once saw any tire damage or deformation.
i had my daily commute today, checked at my shop and when i got home, no visible wear or damage. I did drive more aggressively to see if it pushes something onto wheels.
The top bolt of endlink and spring seat are all fixed to the strut assembly so i doubt anything there touched the tire but that is the only place where it seems to be very close? Springs look fine, control are looks visually sound. I have no idea.
i am going to have an alignment done Saturday. Maybe they can give me some input.

i am going to park at an angle with the wheel turned in and a board under the right wheel to try simulate the angle that turn was taken, maybe it pushed it in way where something rubbed.

Strange, I ran 235/40-18R on Enkei M52 and did some pretty aggressive mountain driving, no understeer, but pushing things right up to the grip limit and had no tire rubbing. I wonder if something got caught between the tire sidewall and a suspension part

hmmm a mystery.
After the alignment, i will just keep a daily eye on my new tires.. i just don't want anything to happen to my Michelins lol best all season tire I've ever driven on.
